SD1 FI system in a p6 - ever been done?

I have just aquired a Rover 3500 SE with fuel injection system, is there anyone among the members who knows if it is possible to convert this system into a P6? the electrical wireing is my main concern. thanks chris varming

It's certainly been done with both types of injection (Flapper and the later Hot-Wire). But you say an injected 3500SE?, the UK market SE's were never injected, so unless its a Yank or maybe an Aussie SD1 (if so, keep it intact!) then you may have a transplanted engine from a SD1 Vitesse, VDP EFI or even a Range Rover.
Or it may even be badged wrongly, doubt it though.
(Best to check the engine No. on the block).

I think the EFI has largely it's own seperate loom too.

Engine no: 28A00340 - I bought the limosine in Sweden and drowe it 980 km back to Denmark. Year 1982. There is a sticker on the rear window saying St.Michael's Garage, Sittingbourne, so it is imported from GB to Sweden. A sticker on the fuel control unit says Lucas 4 CU (federal). Does this make sense? Maybe I should stick to the SU twin carb? Chris+

Well from the engine No. it looks to be an SD1 engine, but a 'hot climate spec' version with a 8.13:1 compression ratio.
Does it have the comp. ratio stamped above the engine number?

If it is basically like the early Federal injection unit, then it would have about 133 bhp, against the 190 bhp of the 'Vitesse' engine.

No real point in swapping to carbs unless something major went wrong with it. Even then it could probably be sorted.
Would be quite nice to keep it in it's own right.

There was an article in P6 News a while ago about fitting the SD1 injection system to a P6 V8
Allen Myers did the article , Paul Atkinson helped him with the work , I believe
Is Paul Atkinson still involved with P6's ? He was one of the more helpful experts , I found

1) Does it have the comp. ratio stamped above the engine number? - A:Yes, the stamp reads: CR 8.13:1

2) Allen Myers did the article , Paul Atkinson helped him with the work. Q:Is that article still available?

Just for info, St. Michael's Garage in Sittingbourne is a second hand car place, not a main dealer.

Sounds like a well travelled SD1! Good luck with the project.

Thanks Ralph for your info about St.Michaels Garage in Sittingbourne. The limo is now deprived of it's engine and gearbox which will be transplanted to my P6. - Sadly, I have advertised the remains to Rover Club Denmark to anyone who would like to get good spares for their SD1 free to collect. No response, so it will probably go to the scrap yard. (however, it is only a SD1...) Chris Varming+++
