I saw a programme on TV where scrapyards have to puncture fuel tanks shockers etc to remove any fluids
So that's a good few useful bits ruined

u have to remove the fuel tank now and it should be flushed and all fluids should be removed including brake fluid.its only the dodgy scrapyards that put something through the tanks..and to comply with enviroment laws now u need a seperate drain for all fluids.and soon u need to remove the trim and it will have to go in a plastics type bin for safe disposal it all costs money so it has to be passed onto the customer....If I have to pick a car up to scrap I now charge £50 but a fewyears ago i used to pick them up for free I only pick up for free if theres more than 3 cars or if i know them very well..

The steel weighed in gets you about £40, but its all the "enviromental" stripping that has to be done as Jay says.
This is going to cause some interesting situations soon, there will certainly be a lot more free cars about, as it becomes cheaper to give them away than scrap them.

A lot of people will simply dump their cars and set fire to them resulting in causing more environmental pollution

scrap clean stel(which means the steel is only steel no plastics)at my metal merchant is £128 a ton today..but a car if taken in with no fluids no tyres no battery is £54 a ton today..but a lot of people including me take the engine out as u get a better price and then u can weigh in the blocks/gearbox as heavy iron which is £145 a ton..makes it worthwhile to take the engines out then.

dave herns and yes its starting to happen more now with burnt out scrapcars.
