Ron's a lazy starter!

I'm just reading through the post with interest. My car is a 2200 sc auto. I managed to chop the power cable in half while I was grinding (dont ask)!
I see the power lead in the footwell as it comes through the bulkhead, but then mine runs from there to the battery in the boot.

Am I safe to put some battery type lugs on it and bolt together?

I'd prefer to run a new cable from the battery to the connection in the footwell. How does the cable connect there? Does it bolt or is it crimped/ sealed in some tamper proof manner?
