Poor old tool section doesn't get much attention. So, have attached a picture of my new inspection lamp. I only got it when I was recently in Halfords and just happened to spot it. I remembered that Practical Classics had done a test on inspection lamps a while back and this Ring model got a good review. It's called a 2-in-1 Multi Purpose Cool Lamp Model RIL9000.
It only cost about £25 and is easily the most useful mains powered inspection lamp I have come across. The reflector is really big and efficient so you get a very bright, wide and even pool of light. It uses a domestic energy saver type 20W compact fluorescent lamp so it stays nice and cool. The stand allows the lamp to point directly up which is ideal for working under the car. You also get a g-clamp that allows you to clamp it into bits of bodywork etc. Although the black plastic case and fixing screws that attach it to the clamp are a bit flimsy, the front lens is quite tough, So you should be able to drop tools on it without shattering the plastic.
