Recomendation. P6 parts.

Just replaced the top ball joint on my P6 as she's going in for her MOT next week and it needed to be done.

Wins International Ltd have them £29.50 ( £38.81 inc vat and postage )

01342 836060

Very good deal seeing JRW list them at £60 without postage!

Ordered it Monday, cam tuesday and just fitted it today. Smile

OUCH!!!!
That seems high!!
Wins prices do seem very reasonable overall though!!
JRW always seem high with their prices!!
I got a set of 4, 2 top and 2 bottom for £30 at an autojumble last year!! Must have been my lucky day!!
Bought a pair of tops from Ebay as well for £17.50 inc p/p!!
You need to hunt things down on ebay and autojumbles to stock up when they come up cheap!!
Its worth it to try to have whatever it is in stock for when its needed!
And when or if the day comes youve still got them and dont need them anymore!
It will be dead easy to sell them and very easily get your money back! "or more!!"
Granted it not always easy to do autojumbles when you are off shore a bit! :)
Good luck with the MOT!!
My TR6's is due next week,I dont forsee any problems though, only done 1500 dry miles!!

Hi,

This subject has come up before....

I've just had a service kit from Wadhams for around £68 including VAT & postage, which was reasonable by any measure when I priced up all the parts seperately with any supplier, & it saved the hassle of collating everything. Came quickly, all now fitted, car transformed, "Voila"! I've no connection with any supplier; I'm just putting a positive view forward.

All P6 suppliers need our support; they risk a lot financially & I bet the overall margins aren't that great when you compare their businesses to being in employment!

I buy items off eBay like a lot of us (especially trim & non-service items) when the price is OK, but I buy off P6 suppliers whenever I can. There'll be one day when we really need them as & when NOS items are used up!

Phil. :)

Well said.

The first time I rebuilt a P6 suppliers were few and far between, but you could spend a weekand delving through local scrap yards, and there were even parts available through your local Rover dealer.

It's a bit different now.

The first pair of upper ball joints that I replaced some 20 years ago had lasted between 50 and 60,000 miles. When the boots were lifted, there was only a small dry blob of dust caked grease... No wonder the joints were worn. The NOS pair that replaced them were pumped full of extreme pressure grease designed for such an application. This pair have been replaced only in the last few months, and each lasted approx 150,000 miles!!

The NOS pair that I subsequently fitted also had the same treatment with copious quatities of grease.

Ron.

I had been keeping an eye on ebay for a few weeks none had come up. :( Just loads of bottom joints.

Thanks, I'm about 99% sure she'll fly throw. She's in top form at the moment. Just need to replace the two front tyres and she's ready to rock and roll.

It's why I posted this, to big up a supplier and to help them out with some extra business, I hope. He was very helpful on the phone. I've used them before for a remote servo, very good price and no need to send an exchange unit.

JRW do stock a lot of stuff you just can not get anywhere else, and some parts are also good price, like service parts as you say. :)
The last P6 I had in the late 80's was given to a friend as the engine had burnt the valves out and I just could not get the bits. Took he's dad a few months going to auto jumbles to get it fixed. These days, I could have done it in a weekend! Strange but such a leading edge technology as the internet is the saviour of classic cars. :)

I have a cunning plan for that, just as he goes in to snap up a boot badge for a tenner I'll shout wow look at that P6 over there!

I have camped overnight, got up at sparrows fart, snuck in early on traders day!!
I learnt early on not to haggle!! if it is cheap, snap it up quick!
But the desire to knock a few quid off is hard to fight!! :)
And ive missed a few good deals by hesitating too long!
Turn your back for a second, and the guy looking over your shoulder will grab it!
I like the BOGOF or multi item deals!!
Like,,buy 2 or 3 for £10,keep one and sell the others for £20 each!! :D

Backtracking a bit , it's a good idea to remove the boots and pack any new ball joints with grease before fitting

I had to do that anyway to make sure I did not damage it when fitting, large socket over the top of it. So at the same time I added some more grease of my own. :)
