rear shockers - rear shockers

Hi I,ve recently fitted rear shockers to my 77 2200 tc when I bought them from a shock absorber stall at a autojumble the seller said they where haevy duty (woodhead) and fitted all the p6 models.I was always under the impression that the 2200 and 3500 had beefier rear shockers? anyway I fitted them and the ride is a lot softer now on the rear (more like a 2000 model) which I feel is wrong.Just a warning to other members when buying rear shockers for 2200 or 3500 models.By the way the cost was £27.00 for the pair. cheers gary.

I think I made the same mistake. Shocks that fit all P6 models - well they do fit but mine are really soft, softer than the ones I took off ,which look like the originals
I'm looking for a set of 4 and I'll change the lot. Any idea who's cheapest ?
Dave

I fitted load-levellers to the rear of our 2200, which are shocks with coil springs fitted to the upper section. They stiffened it up a bit. Picked them up for £50 the pair. Then last year I got another new pair for a fiver at The Enfield Pageant, which was nice. They're going on the V8 after Christmas along with the complete suspension rebuild she requires.
She's clonking merrily at the moment after an enjoyable 1000 mile tour around the Shires of Warwick, Hereford & Mid-Wales. :)

Anyone rememeber /tried spring assisters which are rubber strips you insert between the coils of the spring to extend it and make it firmer ? Worth trying or just a gimmick ?

Hi dave I remember those I fitted some to a mk 111 cortina years ago ,they seemed to firm the rear end up a bit.I dont know if they would work on the back end of a rover though, worth a try if you could still get hold of them and were cheap enough! cheers gary.

Talking of shockers. Has anyone fitted Koni Classics, and if so how do you rate them?

Might go for these next time, but not if they spoil the ride by firming things up.

Dave,
I asked a similar question a couple of months ago (re: suppliers of shockers) so may be worth carrying out a search on the forum and looking back over the last few months - I seem to remember that I had some sensible replies amongst the insensible.
Regards, John.

Fitted Koni Classic both front and rear a couple of years ago. They improved the handling a lot. The car feels much tighter, and I can recommend fitting them. However, you might experience difficulties getting hold of them as Koni is not longer making them for the P6. At least that was what I was told when I tried to obtain them for my second P6 a few months ago.
:)

Thanks Petter!, It would be a shame if they have stopped making them for the P6, I'm a bit of a fan of Koni's and have them on my other car.
Did they make the ride harsher at all?

When I bought my car a couple of years ago, it was on on the original shocks from 1973, so I really don't know how a really good set up P6 should be like. On the other hand, i really enjoy driving my P6 with the Koni's. The ride is definately not harsh, maybe a bit more sporting than the original set up. I also fitted 6X14 Minilites from Tech-Del with 195/70-14 Conti tyres.

I tried Koni dealers both in Norway, Sweden and Denmark, but all give the same answer.... No longer in production. There is a company in Stockholm/Sweden making shocks to your requirements, but so far I havn't given up getting a set of Koni Classics.

Hi I,ve just spotted on ebay some spring assisters mentioned earlier in this thread. The item number is 8006114657 for anyone brave enough to try them. cheers gary.

Hi can anyone tell me where I will get the correct rear shock absorbers for my 2200 tc everywhere I enquire tell me there is only the one type which covers all the range,as I ,ve said in the earlier post I have fitted this type and they are most definently too soft.I can remember when running these cars in the early eighties that there was different shockers listed for the 2000 and 2200/3500.thanks gary.

Thanks for that john after ringing 18 local motor factors and suppliers I finally got one who rather than just look on the computer offered to ring his supplier.Rang me back 15 minutes later and said I could have the proper shockers late afternoon for £26.95 (monroe originals was the make) picked them up at 4.30,while there I asked could they get exhaust parts for my car out came the catalogue,s no problem was the answer, back box £35.00 next section was £55.00 the make bosel and with a 2 year gaurantee! I will definently be giving them my custom in future.cheers gary.
