Rear Brake Lights won't work, Also Dodgy Reversing Lights

Having put my fibreglass wings back on, then having made up fibreglass mounts to fit the rear light clusters too, I'm having a few wiring gremlins at the tail end of the car.

It originally was down to crappy earths, which I rubbed down and cleared out the mounting lugs for. Now, for the most part that seems to have improved things.

When the lights are on, two things happen, the reverse lights come on, and the rear lights AND brake light come on.

I've had a look at the reverse light striker plate and everything looks pretty good under there (was pretty suprised at how clean the transmission tunnel is).
I've also had a look at pressure pad under the servo, taken out the two bullet connectors and clean them, I've also cleaned the spades too.

Other than that I'm a bit stummped as to what the problem is, anyone have any ideas?

Not sure if this is relevant as I haven't had it happen on a P6, but on my old beetle after I refitted all the light clusters post resto a similar thing happened. On Beetles each segment of the light reflectors are insulated from one another, and when this insulation breaks down you start getting symptoms similar to the ones you describe, take the lens off and turn on your sidelights and with a multimeter check for a live in the tail light circuit and check for a rogue live anywhere else (i.e reverse lamp, also will probably be a odd voltage like 3.6v). Then check that your earth isn't live. Alternately, remove both rear lenses and check for continuity between terminals and between segments of the reflectors and make a note of the findings and compare to the other side and see if there is any discrepancies. The only other thing I can suggest is check all the fuses as sometimes a dodgy fuse can cause similar problems, it wont be blown, but will have a dodgy connection in the end cap that will allow continuity but will affect the current able to flow through.
A shot in the dark maybe but hope it helps.
