Rattling gear lever

Hi,
It is a 2000 TC manual, btw, -72. The gear lever rattles noisily when i come up to 50 mph and faster.
If i put my hand firmly on the stick, the noise goes out (of course ). I learned from the former owner that the linkage was
rebuilt in a garage. Have you got any hints? Put grease on? Insulate with something?

Tighten the 3 bolts that fix the gear lever into its base!

It's a bit of a pain to remove the transmission tunnel cover first (without wrecking the handbrake rubber!) but it should be a simple cure.

Is the gearchange floppy too? If so it could also be the nylon bush which the 3 bolts hold or the bonded blob on the bottom of the stick dropped off which you can check underneath the car.
