Radiator Bottom Bolt

Does anybody know what size bolt screws into the bottom of the radiator on a series 1 2000 TC? At the last service my mechanic observed that this is missing, and that the radiator is "flapping" back and forth, chafing one of the hoses. Thks.

If your radiator is vertical flow, then it is a 5/16th UNF inch x 3/4 inch long.

If it is a horizontal flow radiator then it is most likely a 5/16 in UNF x 5/8th inch long.

The other option I have listed is 'special bolt' with a 'spire nut,' with no size given.

Only very early SC cars will use a standard bolt & nut. Almost all cars with the vertical flow rad, with or without a oil cooler, use the special bolt, which has an acme form thread. All crossflow rads (i.e cars after late 1968 to the end of S1 production) use the special bolt.

The bolt will have to be found used.

The acme thread type bolts were used a lot on early Land Rovers, if you have a part number I could look at my LR parts books. It would also have possibly a 'J' type spring nut to screw into.

Thanks for the info everybody. Radiator is vertical flow. I tried Geoff at Wins for the part but he was unable to help. Any other ideas as to who might have this?

The screw is 557168 and the spire nut is 557167. Neither have the asterisk indicating a "new part never used on a previous Rover model" so the Land Rover parts list may work out.

On the 2200 P6 the spire nut stays as 557167 and the screw changes to 78392, which is now superseded by AM605061 on Land Rovers and the appropriate spire nut is AK616011. These hold the front wings on to the bulkhead on the defender style range. Currently available on a number of web sites in UK & am sure should be available in New Zealand. May be worth a look. Check bolt length as it may be too long and need shortening.
