Rad weld - good idea or bad?

A suggestion:
1. Find the leak - precisely.
2. If it is on one of the cross tubes. Simply use a thin nosed pair of pliers to crimp the tube on either side of the hole.
3. If it is where a tube joins the base or header tank, use a suitable snips to cut the tube and then crimp it. The exposed hole in the tank is then sealed with epoxy.

The above was SOP in Africa when radiator shops were hard to find.

Note: If the fine copper fins surrounding the tubes are flaky and pretty much crumble to the touch, this is proof positive that the radiator core is shot.
