Do any of you have any pictures of the rear g/box mount on a non overdrive P4 or has anyone changed one, reason being I have been asked by a P4 owning friend about the subject & he has been given some very dubious advice & I just wanted a clear idea before I advise him

Regards Col

I'm not familiar with the 95 model and my manual only covers the early cars, however the none overdrive option was aslo available on these early cars as well.

In the parts manual the pictures shows 3 extension housings to the gearbox, freewheel, overdrive and a plain box of the same size only containing the speedo take off. In all three options the mounting looks the same.

Its not an easy job to replace, 1st you have to hacksaw through the old mount to get it out, then cool the new one in the freezer at the same time heat up the extension housing in the oven. Then whack the new one in as fast as you can before both parts return to ambient temperature and the mount gets stuck half way in !

The hole the mount fits into has a curved / sloping surface just to make it extra dificult - and means you can't use a press or put the housing on a flat surface to help with the knocking in process.

Oh and don't forget to position the off centre centre hole in the right place.

It makes one hell of a difference to the car though so worth the effort, no more clutch judder and smooth take offs
