Practical Classics Subscription

Having been a suscriber for years , they now tell me they want to put up the charge to the same as for new subscriptions . So why shouldn't I subscribe for a year at a time and get the free gift each year ? Where is the sense for the company in doing this - it will cost them more in the long run ? No -one seems to value existing customers these days

Hi Dave.
Ive not been informed of this by PC?
Where did you find out about it?
I resubscribe when there is a free gift worth having.
Some introductory subscriber offers,ie cheap, only last for a year anyway, then its the annual subs cost for the year!!

I've got that many of these I'm thinking of unsubscribing and having a browse and buying when it looks good...

Guilty  that's what I do....

I have this every year with the RAC, we have a family recovery, 4 seperate cards. I got my renewal today £205, minus membership discount of £40.32, = £164 .68. On line check found that a new on line membership is £145.99. I rang them up and complained, I am now on a new scheme, same benefits but £145.99  . Last year they did the same but I was put on an AA price match by the RAC, again about £19 less. How many just accept the renewal and get stiffed this way? I also used to ring up when they had introductory gifts, flask, road atlas, etc. and got those as well, where is the loyalty bonus when paying more than a new member?

Lots of companies do an introductory cheap offer to snare you, then put the price up to the normal rate!
Only way around it is to renew annually, and not have a direct debit continuous subscription!

on breakdown cover you can get it for about £40 a year including european cover if you forgo the big names and trawl the cashback websites - i used topcashback to cover the 820 this year for £50 with £12 cashback.... (for me and rozelle to drive). If you take less cover it comes down cheaper than that too.

- They sent me a leaflet telling me the rates would have to go up
I wonder if their new business departments have targets to achieve yet retained customers count for nothing ?
Same applies to Sky TV etc

The same annoyance in Germany. They badly neglect what we call Kundenbindung (customer retention (?)). Market researchers consider that a bad mistake.

Person I spoke to couldn't understand why it made no financial sense to their company for me to take out a new subscription eevry year with a free gift so I have belatedly recieved quite a nice Autoglym car valet pack this AM. I'd have been happy with £10 off for being a long standing subscriber

That's interesting- but not surprising. Years ago I let my subscription lapse because I lost faith in the numpties running it (when Matt Jones was editor). I switched to Classics Monthly which I generally feel is a better magazine. However, with Danny Hopkins coming back, PC has improved so I took out a new susbscription about 6 months ago when they had a "buy one year, get a second free" offer which saved a fortune for me out here in the middle east!

I would let it lapse, buy it at the newsagent for a while, and then take out a new one when there's a good deal.
