I have been surfing around and found a fair bit of info about Por-15 Rust Preventative Paint Black (473ml)

They say that 473ml, a pint (I thought a pint was 568ml?) will cover 4.5M2 and will stop rust for ever?

Anyone used this paint, how good is it and where is the best place to buy it?

Hello Richard,

I have yet to use POR 15 myself, but at this year's N.S.W Rover Owner's Club display day, there were a number of Rovers there that had an application or two. The black POR 15 that had been applied both within the engine bays and onto the suspension links was extremely shiny. The owner's spoke in glowing terms about the paint, and each said that once dry the paint was hard like ceramic. If it was applied by mistake to say a bolt head, then you literally have to chip or grind it off..it is THAT hard.

They also mentioned that the surface that is to be painted must be washed with water, and if you use terps or thinners, then the paint will bloom immediately. If you should get some on your fingers, then nothing will take it off. It will just gradually wear off over the coming weeks.

It is however not UV resistant, so for applications where such exposure will occur, it must be top coated.

Ron.

POR 15 is great stuff . I used it extensively when I rebuilt my P3 , the late lamented Isambard Kingdom Brunel .If you follow the directions it does every thing the adverts say ; producing a hard , shiny finish when brushed on .

Good stuff and highly recommended - you need to make sure you don't get it anywhere you don't want it as it will never come off again wihout strong persuasion or through geological processes

It 's probably sold in US pints which are smaller than the Imperial measure (16 US fluid ounces as opposed to 20 Imperial fl oz)

Thanks all.

I will be getting some of that 8)

Problem is that it must be applied to bare metal, so may have to invest in a sand blaster.
