Poly Bushes Squeaking Like Mad

Hi All,

A year ago I had my steering done and at the same time replaced all the front bushes with superflex poly bushes. Now it squeaks like mad.

Is my only option to go back to rubber, or is there a cure????

Also, I'd swear they increase the road noise inside the cabin, does anyone else have any experience with this?

Thanks,
Brian.

Not yet though I am planning to completely polybush our (Denovo) V8 so would also appreciate feedback on them. As it happens the rear end of our 2000TC is polybushed & I've never heard any squeaking from there. As to noise, well all the suspension has been stiffened on her & she's rolling on Revolution's & Yokohama's with no carpets so the ride isn't as smooth & quiet as Rover intended. Very exhilarating though. I've just got her through the MoT (Friday) & back on the road to replace the 2200TC whose temporary 2000SC lump is now playing up.

Give each of the bushes a good dose of WD40 one at a time, then test to see which one is causing the problem! It could be the rubber it the main spring mount "top hat???" thats squeaking on metal,Thats a favourite for transmitting road noise!
Also could be the type of tyre,as some are really noisy, especially if they are 8 ply van tyres!

I'm sure it's the bushes in the top link mounting brackets. Give a damn loud squeak over every bump - especially the sleeping policemen! Starting to brass me off!

I'll give the spring top hats a spray just in case.....

Tyres are new - and I got rid of the van tyre ages ago !!!

I have the same problem. Last year i replaced the the top link front bushes (there wasn't much rubber left anyway...) on the offside with polybushes. The nearside has been left alone. I had the impression that they were transmitting a little more road noise than the rubber bushed side but it wasn't anything terrible. After a year they started to squeak also when the front suspension has to use quite a bit of its travel. They were assembled with their own special lubricant, but it seems that this was not enough. If it wasn't for the hassle to remove the springs i would have replaced them with rubber ones.

Hi,

not shure whether I am on topic with this. I hat problems with a (very) loudly squeaking front end in the past, on both sides that was, with five years inbetween left and right. I suspected the front spring rubber domes or other bushing, but the actual cure in both cases was to replace the top ball joints. It turned out the old ones both were dry as bone, full of rusty powder and had huge play.

Hope this helps,
Klaus

I replaced most of the front suspension bushes on my more modern car (Audi A4) with poly bushes about a year ago. In dry weather they squeak like mad on bumpy road surfaces. In wet weather they don't make any noise. I tried lubricating with some copper grease and this helped only for a little while. As a result I would be wary of using them again - at least for a normal road going car where all out performance is less important than comfort and a smooth squeak free ride. On the upside, I would hope the poly bushes will last for the lifetime of the car and I don't have any problems with sloppy steering or handling.

I don't have any experience yet of driving a polybushed car. However when we were doing the English car front suspension, Alan at Classepart counselled in favour of using rubber for the top link mounts for much these reasons. I come from the other end of the spectrum, always being suspicious that the manufacturers will have sacrificed precision at the alter of quietness and comfort. This attitude was cemented when I saw my first demonstration of the working of the voided bushes in a Sierra's rear suspension at a Motor Show! That said I'm no more up for deliberate masochism than the next man! Alan will sell you remanufactured top link rubber bushes if required.
