Police 3500S traffic car

Found this picture of a Greater Manchester Police 3500S on Denovo's. Interesting two tone mountings in front of the spoilers.

This car would have been one of a batch of 65 3500s' introduced in 1974-5. I have vivid memories of these cars from my childhood; my dad was a GMP traffic officer and occasional called home in one! Apparently at the central police garage in Manchester, one of the mechanics did little else but rebuild the gearboxes. Indeed they also offered this service for other smaller forces using the 'S'.

These images are superb so thanks a million for sharing them... Any picture of a 'rozzer specification' P6 is great...!!!

Were 3500S's less common than 3500's as Police cars?! I imagine so giving the relative frailty of the transmission...!

I drove some of these jam sandwiches round the test track super comfy front seats ! i will try and remembers the police specs.
High boiling point brake fluid, much fatter front and rear dampers, these had a blond colored rubbers top and bottom (some sort of neoprene i suspect) also fitted to panard rod ,different front and rear springs and brake pads, front seats were really nice and held you ,zips in the head lining, certified speedo with papers, separate from std one , extra switches ,no AC just a Motorola radio .Some had the lights and sirens fitted at the P6 and of course ever one that drove them had to try them , in the end we were told the next one to do this can go home for the day. also a lot of CID and HOME OFFICE cars were built all were Zircon
Think some had run flats but not absolutely sure

Just switched from "Items on eBay" section where I was reading the thread "Does anybody really pay these prices?" which has diverged into a discussion of the utility and aesthetics of the ET and teardrop headrests.
I note that neither Police 3500 in the photos above have headrests. Maybe due to the obstruction of field of view?
I bet the crew of the damaged one would have regretted their absence! Textbook whiplash risk.

I never saw one with headrests, they all had restraints though.
