piranah electronic ignition, help

Hi, my car has had a piranaha electronic ignition box fitted. The fuse that protects the windscreen washer, stop lights and flashers has blown, and according to the manual it should be in a fuse box under the bonnet on the right. But all that's there is the piranaha box. Does anyone know if the box would contain fuses?

I am stuck in Devon 200 miles from home without brake lights or indicators.

Its a 1972 200sc auto.

Any suggestions gratefully received, should I start poking about in the piranah box? Don't want to make matters worse.

Hi , it being a series 2 car the fuse box is behind the passenger glove box inside the car ??? it is on the v8 anyhoo , not clued up on the 4 cyl cars . It is a common " bodge " to run the electronic ignition from the washer bottle , mine was the same untill i changed it . Try taking a temp feed from somewhere else . good luck :D

Yep guys you were spot on, found the fuse labelled ignition control blown, 3 fused for £1.35 from the Texaco station down the road and we are sorted.

Thanks both, and nick d for the steer :)

HI Martin

Your car is chassis suffix C. So it is a '73 model (production starts sept '72) and the wiring diagram is on page 53Q of the workshop manual in the back of the car.

We are therefore looking for diagram ident no 66 - "Fuse 19 - 20: reverse lights, stop lamps, direction indicators, gauges and screenwasher reservoir" This is at middle right of the diagram and the fuse is a 25A 32mm long glass case fuse.

The fuse box is behind the glove box in the passenger foot well, bolted to the front bulkhead. If the fuse is OK and there is no 12V at either terminal, then that implies a supply failure from the ignition switch. That's pretty unlikely, because that also feeds the ballast resistor in the ignition circuit, so the engine ought not to run if that were the case! Just in case there is no 12V at that fuse, it would be quite in order as a get you home fix to grab 12V from anywhere you could find it and back feed one of the items that this fuse supplies (and which have failed). The easisest to get at is the screen washer bottle, where the place you'd want to insert 12V is the large triangular connector onto the motor (the washer switch simply completes the earth path).

HOWZAT!

Hijacking the thread slightly, but on the same topic...

Am I correct in thinking that it's been advocated here on this forum to ensure that the fuses are 32mm long, as opposed to the usual 30mm ones? (The 30mm seem to aggravate the situation of the fusebox terminals getting hot and the fusebox melting on Series 2 cars?)

Fuses don't normally blow for no reason so be prepared to investigate further
PS I don't see why connecting electronic ignition to the screen washer pump is " a bodge" - that's where mine is connected

I think it's because that wire is fused... if that were to blow by a fault in the washer motor or whatever, the car will lose ignition and stall.
