P6's on the telly

DIY mechanics dream! Yeah right!!

Still he saved the best till last by sitting on the front of the bonnet with his equally dozy mate, so showing his huge knowledge and expertise with these cars.

I'm afraid that although Mike Brewer may well be a nice enough bloke, having seen him on programmes buying cars, spending weeks messing around with them, only to sell them for about £25 profit (if that), he hasn't got much credability IMHO.

I seem to remember that's quite an old show, look at the cars at the sides of the roads.. There was a time when you could pick one up for £25, before they were worth £100 in scrap, mind you it wouldn't be roadworthy, and would no doubt require very lengthy surgery with Dr MIG !! :D

Harvey,
I'm with you on that sentiment, it's a wonder that he's made a living at all after all the effort that Ed China puts into the cars and then sells them on for a very small profit,it may have something to do with the TV regulations?

That series is about 6+ years old . Mike Brewer's fake "cockney geezer " accent / mannerisms annoy me. There's another series where he gets his mechanic Ed China to renovate tired old wrecks and when he works out his profit , he takes no account of the labour costs.

I'd like to know what his motortrade credentials are

He's equally as anoying as Clarkson. Richard Hammond , James May , Quentin Wilson , Tiff Needell and Vicki Butler Henderson

The only one I can watch is Mark Evans (?) who has restored an E Type ,a MGB , built an off road Range Rover , a trike, a helicopter etc on the Discovery Channel

Mike Brewer was born in Surrey, so he probably picked up that accent from some of his past colleagues. He was, before his many TV appearances, a genuine car dealer, and still is. Have to agree about the £25 malarkey, even though this was a while back. The tax disc on one of the cars reads December `99! Doesn`t anyone on here know the cars` owners, then or now? I still find him a sight more bearable than those `Top Toss` clowns though. If it doesn`t do 0-60 in half a second they`re not interested.

Mike Brewer doesn't talk like a man from Surrey. We are more refined here in Surrey ! He's deliberately picked up a "South London dodgy geezer" type accent.

Do you know where he currently sells cars ?

Im with Rudiger ad Dave, (thats on the fence then)

I think the clip is good for the Rover P6 in general, any publicity is good publicity, as far as street cred is concerned, it has plenty, my P6 is always admired by the young lads.

However, and this is nout to do with the feature itself, These so called rockney del boys, must get laughed at by the pucker car front boys. We are really talking showbiz types here. getting into TV is not easy and they dont usually get picked from the grease monkey line up down at Micks motors Ltd.

Don.

I grew up in Surrey but sound more like from London. It depends what parts of Surrey, I grew up on the Old Dean estate just out side Camberley. The place was an overflow for London housing estates as was much of the area so good chance if he grew up in a similar area he picked up he's parents and friends ascents, who could have been from London, me old china, guvna :p :D

Agreed. As for true Cockneys, don`t they originate from East London and not South? Although I`d bet not all Eastenders are Cockneys and not all Cockneys are Eastenders! Mr. Brewer has, to my Scottish ears anyway, a typical `London` accent, I prefer to call his dialect `Mockney`.

True Cockneys are born within the sound of Bow Bells (St. Mary le-Bow which is Cheapside, so not really "Eastenders" and such). I was raised in Germany and still get asked what part of London I come from, even when I use my best BBC Hobson's... Brewer probably falls into the same category as Cilla Black; someone who's voice, heavily stylised, is part of their image.

I loved the clip though... £25 for a P6?... going to need a bigger welder...

The ringing from Bow bells could-when they were still there- be heard from all points of the compass, so true Cockneys could be Norf` Sarf` East and West in that case. :p
