Hi
We cooked in 30C+ summer weather and a black car !. The only relief was to open all the windows , very noisy and windy at Quebec autoroute speeds . I have found a Webasto agent who can fit a modern Webasto smoked glass sliding roof , {not the folding fabric roof originally fitted in the UK }
This is very cool and Lexus looking , but will be un original , which will be a shame . However Mrs RVW is pushing for a convertible for next summer , say an MGB V8 or TR 8 .I don't want to fit one of those cheap looking pop up plastic roof things to improve ventilation
Any one any experience with the modern Webasto sliding roof ? or any comments on " originality vs comfort in a high temperature environment ??
And NO thank's I don't want to try and retro fit any one''s spare Rover A/c .
Cheers
RVW

I had a webasto on a car and it was great, I never had any problem with leaks.

What used to be a bit of a bother was he air deflector when not in use. It is forehead level but is easy to take off and store.

I had a Hollandia 710 sliding roof fitted to the GTO a couple of years back. No worries at all - i looked like a factory job. The controls could look rather out of place in a classic car - they were defintely in a plastic post modernist style. You will need to move the dome light in the roof.

As to the originality vs comfort thing, it's your car, but my take is that if the car is pretty much original I won't make this sort of change willingly especially if the original headlining is still in good shape. On the other hand once it's got some "improvements" that cannot be easily undone then practicality and convenience usually wins out.

You can still buy the original Webasto fabric roof if you're really keen to keep the period flavour <http://www.tudorwebasto.com>. I don't know what's available in terms of steel sunroofs, but that might be another way of keeping the overall 60's idiom intact
