P6B Factory Camshafts

I'm getting totally confused here , where is a direct link to an actual 3.9 cam suitable for a 3.5 motor . Has to suit an autobox for mine . :?:

Edit ,
Even more confused . Dave , v8 tuner has rockers and shaft kit listed for 99quid , where are you seeing 500 quid ?

Thanks Jim .
Why couldn't i find that on their site , closest i got was some lumpy thing i don't really want to get involved with , this
http://www.v8tuner.co.uk/product.php?id=415

I want to keep it simple , and not to expensive , without cutting corners . The old girl has let me know she will need some attention over the winter , occasionally a little vocal tappit on fire up :?
I've been getting more and more confused with what to use so thanks for that link :D

Keep an eye on valve lift if going down the aftermarket path. The factory camshafts for the 3.5, 3.9 had a valve lift of 0.390". The maximum valve lift that can be safely used with SD1 and later heads is 0.430". Going beyond this will see the springs binding, parts breaking etc. High valve lift camshafts require head modifications, different springs, shortened valve guides etc.

The beauty of sticking with a 0.390 lift camshaft is that everything goes back the way it was intended. No need to use adjustable pushrods or shim the rocker shafts etc. Once the lift exceeds 0.390", things are no longer straight forward.

I'm confused too now, but much happier, because I can't see them at £500 either. They were definitely listed for that price when I put my price comparison spreadsheet together. I'm comparing prices between v8 tuner, RPi, Real Steel and Rimmer Bros. V8 tuner does have a pair of complete rocker assemblies for just under £1k listed on its website.

I can only reiterate what has been said about the Land Rover 3.9 camshaft. It really is the best option over the standard cam' that one can buy 'off the shelf'. Peak torque (around 2000rpm) any hill, and it will pull and pull and pull. As a paradox, I'm now using an after market performance cam' which peaks at 3250rpm. So to 'pull' up hills like the 3.9 cam' does, I have to be doing nearly 80mph

Hello Lee,
sounds good to me. I have been made aware of this thread when discussing my valve timing Problems. Who is supplying this type of cam? Got any specific Part numbers, also for Suitable Lifters?

Thanks for your Feedback.

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Beware that what ever you buy, cheap in price where engine parts for the Rover V8 are concerned usually mean rubbish. The genuine lifters for the Rover V8 all the way through production with Land Rover until it ceased in 2004 were made by the Diesel Equipment co, Grand Rapids, Michigan, U.S.A. They were the only part within the engines not manufactured within the U.K.

I am advised that Real Steel have a good selection of camshafts, as do Rimmer Bros, both genuine Land Rover items and OEM, not always the same in the case of camshafts and rocker assemblies.
