P6 rear bumper

I can't help but it's worth knowing that all rear bumpers are the same. Doesn't matter if it's series 1 or 2, 4 cyl or V8.

Anyone got a good condition rear bumper for a Series 1? Mine's a victim of snow!

Did the snow damage it? Or did someone just misjudge the distance to your car?

Good rear bumpers seem to be one of the holy grail items for the P6. Really nice ones are normally pretty pricey, if you can find one with decent chrome for under a ton buy it quickly!

Yep. They are in direct line of fire from the back wheels and rust through where the brackets are attached - the road spray gets between the bracket and the top face. The rust damage isn't obvious until it's terminal, as the layer of chrome disguises what is going on. Look very carefully (ie with a screwdriver) in this location at anything your offered. I finished up having one rechromed / repaired. The chroming was reasonable at £180, but the repair took the final bill over £300!

Same thing has happenned to mine, even though I have original rear mudflaps! Been rusting through from the underside for years and the top surface is all peppered with tiny brown specs of rust! Clearly been like that for some years as it hasn't got any worse since I got the car.
I took the bumper off and rubbed down the underside before giving it a good thick coat of Hammerite to stop the rot going any further. Won't make any difference now, the damage is done, but it's something I suppose.

Adam's right, decent back bumpers (or just straight ones) are a bit like hen's teeth. Wins ltd have a few good used examples for about £95 inc VAT and p&p, but if you want a properly top-end one, it's either NOS (Needle Of the hayStack) or take the hit and do what chris' did and repair and rechrome! :?

It would be more correct to say that my bumper was the victim of ice and a poorly planted tree! Oh, and an overenthusiastic driver. However, I was pulled out of the ditch by a passing Series 2 Land Rover. Quite a classic scene. Beware black ice, even with mud and snow tyres.

Oh Dear! I hope you took a picture David! Two daily use classics together!

A good rechromer should still be able to cope with the result of your "off" if you can't find one that is acceptable.

Pretty much the math I was looking at too, which is why I cheerfully parted with £245 for this a few weeks back:

Since turned up and it's Mint ( ! ) Most pleased; by the time I've pulled my dented rear bumper off, had the bumper de-chromed, hammered out the dents, had it polished +replated I'd be no better off, I will throw the old bumper in the shed "just in case" there are any incidences or accidents this is one part that is worth having a spare of...

BTW, these are light enough + small enough to send by Post ( Royal Mail ) if you find one out of town
