Opening stuck bonnet

Hi all,
Prior to pick up of our Rover 90 P4 the guy or one of his kids selling it slammed the bonnet shut. The cable is broken and I cant get it open. The hook latch itself is free and while I can get a short section of the cable from inside the grill I cannot get it to release. I know I need to get to the spring release as have done this with other cars but dont seem to be able to access from the grill area. Trying not to totally destroy the grill or do any other damage. If anyone knows any tricks can they let me know.
Cheers
Craig

If you insert a screwdriver between the second and third vertical strips to the left of the centre of the grill you will find a hole in the slam panel. With the screwdriver through the hole, move it to the left and the latch will release.

Ain't this a wonderful forum?
Guy in Western Australia (Welcome, Craig and Brock) asks a query about a 60 year old car and 3 hours later a member in Kent gives him a detailed answer!

Gotta bring a smile to your face.

Thanks 2549 Andy, have had a go at this but to not avail at present. Your description was very clear and easy for me to find. It think it maybe that when they have closed it something has been jammed in the latch receiver. Will keep laying with it and sure I will get it open soon.

You may need an extra person to press the bonnet down while you try to release,as it maybe under too much tension to just pop open!

Thanks, this was actually the first thing we did, does not seem to be going all the way down which may indicats something actually jammed in it.
