HI All,
Just a quicky, will be giving my P6 ('75 3500s 4 speed) a thorough going over in the next couple of weeks, I want to change the oil in the engine gearbox and diff.
I am sorted on the engine front, but what oils should I use for the Gearbox and Diff? Millers trans M sport has been reccomended on here in the past for the box, anyone got any comments? and how about the diff, I have a load of castrol B373 left over from the Capri (V expensive, but cured a groaning LSD) could I use this?
Cheers

Yep, consider Millers Trans-M, or Trans M-Sport for the gearbox. (It worked beautifully my 'S' gearbox).

Not sure what grade/spec the Castrol B373 is, its probably best just sticking to the recommended oil for the diff and like the gearbox oil - change it regulary.
You cant go wrong with something like Castrol EP90. Maybe adding Molyslip if you desire.

Just make sure the car has a good run to warm through the oils before draining. And remove the filler plugs before attempting to undo the drain plugs.

Thanks for that Peter,
I have gone for the millers for the gearbox, and I got some millers for the diff as well (Having looked at the castrol I don't think it will be suitable It is intended for 'Racing use only' Ho hum anyone want 2.5 litres of B373 for a competition limited slip diff?)

Hi All,
Well what a transformation, having changed all fluids in my 3500s I can highly recommend Millers Trans M or Trans M sport for 4 speed manual boxes, The notchy change and difficulty engaging second has completely vanished, the box is also noticeably quieter - this is probably just down to new oil in the box, but I thought I would mention it
Cheers

Mnnn - My rover book states engine oil for the gearbox? - Is this OK?

Im abroad so never seen Millers oil. - What is the spec of it so I can search out alternative if necc.

Thanks

Use a 20W-50 motor oil in the gearbox. Change it at least yearly.

Millers Trans-M (+ Trans-M Sport) is a 20W-50 motor oil with EP additives, mainly designed for shared engine/gearbox oil such as in Mini's or boxes that use engine oil, i.e. ours.
Its highly suitable for the 'S' gearbox. Use it if you can get hold of it.
