Hi folks I want to upgrade my oil pump when I change my camshaft any ideas on where I can get an upgrade and any other parts required?
Thanks

Glen :)

Oil pump upgrade kit http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-V8-P6-P ... 486681f5e4
This is the one you want . Try also real steel , or V8 tuner if not in stock with the ebay link . V8 tuner , he will do you a whole package on the cam ( 3.9 landrover plenty of torque ) lifters ( don't do the cam without doing the lifters ! steel timing gears , roller chain , gaskets etc for around 200 quid . Don't forget the metric bolt in the end or the cam  :D

Good news I hope. Ordered all the parts from the same suppler you suggested Stina, I've also ordered a new radiator the old one had K-seal in it and the core was disintegrating plus brake pads points plugs and so on for a service and MOT then I hope that DVLA will give me my free tax disc! A small hole already in my budget!! and the engine seems quieter now or is the sound of money draining out of the rover fund that's masking the tappet sound?

Hi Glen . As your going that far with it i'd seriously consider electronic ignition , for the forty quid or so it costs well worth it . Better starting , reliable , no maintainance . Check out SimonBBC web site . Good luck with it all , any problems just come back here and ask :D

Quick update; camshaft completely worn out, lobes virtually worn away, lifters distorted, timing chain slacker than old nicker elastic! Sprockets knackered. Engine still ran, what will it be like all back together. Other new parts are engine mountings the old ones have come apart! New rad as the old one had k seal in it and the core was breaking down. Uprated oil pump gears. Plus full service ouch this has been expensive still its passed its MOT

Get it running and set up properly and you'll be pleased with how it runs . You do know all about the cam running in process ? 20 minutes at between 1800 and 2000 rpm without letting it tickover . Very important if you want the cam to last more than a couple of thousand miles !

Good news, car running like new no tappet noise, exceptional oil pressure and now a new electronic distributor as recommended by Stina, on order, should be fitted tomorrow, then a weekend to drive it before I have a small op on Monday which means I can 't drive for a few days . Full service carried out, new engine mounts. This car is becoming like Triggers broom!! LOL Nice and reliable and loads of fun. :D

Well done that Man . With the upgraded pump just be sure to let her warm through before any serious revs ( good practice in any case ) Hopefully your seeing about 45/50 psi at 2k revs on a warmed through engine and around 20/25 psi on tickover . Enjoy :D

Drove the car for the first time today after my operation. I cant believe its the same engine or car totally better, fast on acceleration, quiet on tick over a great experience. Only issue to resolve is the distributor the one from simonBBC ran for a second or so then nothing. Returned to be tested and yes we bought the coil as well. Not to pleased about it thus far I hope next week bring better news on that front. That said I'm very pleased :D :D

Yes , thats the same result I got when I first drove mine after the oil pump upgrade was completed .
Its like you've hopped into someone else's car .
Great feeling isn't it ? Whats more - No more worrying about a lack of oil up in the top end somewhere .

Are you running a full 12v feed to the coil though ? If your running it from the original feed it's only 9/10 volts ( it'll show 12v at rest , but with the motor running and the draw on it , it will drop to around 9v as it's ballasted feed . ) The ignition module and new 12v coil wont like that . Try running it from the washer pump live which is close by . it'll get you going untill you can bypass the resisted feed properly ( sorry if you've already done this ) :D

Not quite Stina, more like 6.6 Volts  The only time the ballasted coil will see battery voltage is whilst using the starter motor.

Ron.

I disagree Ron . If you measure the voltage from the original ballasted feed TO the coil without the engine running you will see 12v . When the engine is running and the coil is drawing you will see around 9 volts from the same feed To the coil .
Either way it's not the point i'm trying to make . If Glen is using an ignition module that needs a full 12v feed then the original ballasted feed needs to be bypassed to feed a full 12v to the coil .

Absolutely, I agree with you :) As far as I am aware, most if not all of the electronic distributors do indeed require a full 12 volt supply.

Ron.

Yes it was on 12 Volt the ballast resistor was bypassed. IThey sent a replacement amplifier which when fitted made on difference awaiting to hear from them.

Glen :)
