So...finally got round to fitting that new sender that's been staring at me for the last couple of weeks!
18mm O/E spanner cut off to 3" long, alternator bracket off, and (eventually) out comes the expired one.
But now the fun part....
The new sender I have (Britpart!) says on the box "Equivalent to 555947 which is the Rover reference. But directly above the 1/2" male thread is a large hexagon (about 1.1/4") instead of the 3/8" Whit or 18mm on the original. This stops the sender driving fully home as it fouls a lug on the oil pump cover.
The Britpart sender looks exactly like the one shown on Ian Wilson's website here.. (ID 288)
Rover Classics - Electrical
Anyone else met up with this?
Can you get male/female distance adapters? Or am I safe to grind off the offending lug? (Don't really want to do this but if needs must!)
