oil filters for the V8

Hi,

I searched the forum and the web and found a lot of different filters that might fit the V8. I'll start a list, hopefully you'll come to the rescue and confirm that I'm right - unclear to me is with question mark. It's not too easy to find the proper ones here in Austria for a decent price. (I don't want to pay 20,- EUR)

  • Unipart GFE 145
    Fram PH25

Hi, these filters have the 13/16 thread. If you fit the housing from an SD1
or Land Rover they use 3/4 thread which is a lot more common thread fitting
and is much more plentiful in application and so cheaper. Colin.

Hi thob,

I've used the Unipart, Coopers & Fram numbers in your list so I know they're fine for (as Colin says) the P6B housing.

Cheers,

Australian made Ryco Z160 is another that fits. These are available to fit various old Holdens along with some of the current 6 litre plus Chevy engined Holdens.

Bearing in mind that you should be changing oil and filter at 3,000 mile intervals for the V8 to have long term health, I should buy a bulk batch of whichever filter you choose. I've done this with the Fram PH25 with a worthwhile cost saving.

I had an old PH10 which is rather longer than the PH25, but this had been superceded by the PH25 when I went to try and buy some. It is a rather tight fit as well, so is awkward to fit when pre-charged with oil.

Got my year's worth of oil filters waiting (thanks to Classeparts), just gotta get me some oil for the year too :D

The Ryko Z30 fits the P6v8. It also fitted my Holden HQ which Ron from NSW may have heard of. ( I also have a low km HC 202 motor sitting in my garage ) No serious offers refused. Transport to Australia your care.

Hello Classicus,

That is right it does too... :) It is a much longer filter compared to the Z160.

I do remember the HQ Holden. When I was at school, I went to Taronga Zoo with a school friend, and his Dad had one. He and his family collected me from my house and off we went in the Holden. All the Holdens that I have been in all had this wonderful Holden smell.

Where I grew up, the next door neigbour had an EH Holden, a real classic these days. I am pretty sure it had the 179 grey motor.

Ron.
