Oil depth in sump

I am transplanting a 3.9L 36D engine into my P6. I have what appears to be an original P6 oil sump (has a notch in the rear to permit passage of the exhaust pipe). There was no dipstick with the 36D engine, and it would have fitted a different sump anyway. I do have a dipstick that came with the Olds engine that was in the car (fitted with said P6 sump). It has a high and low mark scratched into the surface, obviously by hand. Note that this dipstick fits flush on the engine block and does not use the dipstick extension above the block.

According the marks, the high oil level mark corresponds to about 3 1/8" of oil depth in the sump and the low level mark to 2 1/2" of oil depth. This also corresponds to oil levels that are 2" and 2 3/8" from the block face (sump flange).

Yes? No? Am I going about this the right way?

Humbly submitted,

All you could do is drain and refill the engine with the correct quantity of oil for a P6B, and then mark the dopstick to suit.
