Waipu on the East Coast of the North Island of NZ, has just celebrated its 139 years of settlement by the Scots. (This is a very long time by NZ standards.) On new years day it was observed in traditional style. Yes, there was Scottish country dancing, throwing the caber and seemingly endless numbers of performances by Highland pipe bands. The occasion justified headline news on NZs leading TV channel. ( And fittingly so). As I understand Pilkies' mother lives in Waipu, I feel the occasion is worhy of mention on this forum.

Thanks Classicus.
A very happy new year to you in the 1st country to see it in.
You are correct, and mum and step dad are heavily involved with the Waipu museum, doing historical reasearch, getting exhibits set up,and then documented into digital/pc storage.
Also getting them online and interactive for the world to see.
A very good place for youngsters worldwide to learn some of the early history of NZ.

They have also been very involved with the new year events, and as they are both now 71 I have to applaud their achievements.
I am looking forward to my next visit whenever that may be,but I suspect that if/when I do go again,it will be for good!
