not sure what to make of this... - no smoking zone

I dare say a car wearing foreign number plates and without an emissions sticker is unlikely to be subject to an enforceable penalty fine. When I first came to Berlin in 2003 I often parked my P6, still proudly sporting its silver-on-black old fashioned UK plates, in a fairly cavalier manner (I didn't know that its illegal to park against the direction of traffic!). I often returned to the car to find a polite warning notice pointing out my failure to observe the traffic rules and regs, but no fine! Tourist income surely outweighs the small sums generated by selling emissions tickets! Traffic wardens will probably be asked to focus their money-making endeavours on German-licensed vehicles!
Don't let this story put you off visiting Germany, ideally in your classic British car. But be prepared for similar legislation to make its way to the UK. I'm told there's soon to be a ban on smoking in ones own car, who knows what further incursions into our liberties the nanny state will want to make...

Where I live , Surrey , there are signs springing up about low emission zones starting 4/2/08 and I don't know what that's about

The world's gone crazy , what's a bit of pollution compared to the risk of being mugged or worse ?
