NOS FACTORY ***WOODEN*** GEAR KNOB!

Just spotted this on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NOS-NEW-Rover-P6- ... 4841wt_950

10% of the value of my whole car- and it's only 1" wide!! Still, it's definitely factory- just look at the box! Dated end of Sept '69, so too late to be a long-forgotten 2000S spec knob (thought it might have matched the leather covered centre console)... Is it an exceptionally rare export piece? Early 3500S NADA perhaps??

Whatever it is, I won't be buying it - good old-fashioned bakelite is good enough for me! Think i'll put the money towards a respray... So happy bidding everyone else!!

It's not that rare! It was an option on all manual cars from at least '66 on, possibly even from day one. It was often used in conjunction with the woodrim steering wheel. I have one on my red TC and about 3 or 4 more spares. It's nice but that's a lot of money!

I have one on my car too and I certainly wouldn't pay that much for it  .

I remember Nick D asking if I had a good security system fitted to the car when he saw it

I've never owned one, and they are as rare as hen's teeth (unless you have several!)

 Maybe it is a bit of an export thing! (like the series 1 side strips) How common are the woodrim steering wheels over there then?

It's funny how these things work. Down here in export land, the rare items are things like mudflaps, roof aerials, sundym glass and Winguard door mirrors.

hi,
all 3500's NADA's were auto's so not used. export 2000's to the states had the wood rim wheel and wood gear knob as far as i remember as standard. so in there day not rare, but now like hen's teeth, especially new ones.

I have one like that on my '70 Federal TC, same as the one that was on my Dad's '69 TC.

In the box of spares that came with my car was a genuine wooden Rover "3-D" gear knob, part number 561145, dated 6/5/68, in the same type of box as the E-Bay item.
This will be going on my car after the respray gets done.
I've never seen the black bakelite knob on any P6's in Canada.
