non starter

My car has not been started since August, went today and connected battery charger to battery and tried to start. Rev counter jumped up 1/2 way round the dial and stayed there when I turned on ignition, and when turning key fully to start all I got was a buzzing noise from engine bay. 1975 2200tc. Any ideas.

Cheers

Sounds like it just needs a good overnight trickle charge to me

Yep..I'd agree with that.

Might be a good idea to pop the plugs out, disable the ignition and spin her over for a few seconds once your battery's back in.

"connected battery charger to battery and tried to start." - are you using one of those boost chagers that actually start the engine ? I've got one but I think they are a bit risky to use

The buzzing noise sounds like the starter solenoid

the charger is a good quality but fairly low output unit which I bought mainly for motorbike batteries so I dont think it should be too risky, and I have used it on the car before. I will probably just buy a new battery as this one is 4 years old.
I'm hoping a light chap on the starter will release the solonoid and get me going then I'm off too check my uncles lock up for Bugattis.

Cheers

If it's just low output then it probably wont start the car unless you've had it on a while, I wouldn't rush out for a new battery just yet, I would still give it a good long charge unless you've done that & it still didn't work

Wise idea 8)

Don't forget to check your battery is properly topped up (using distilled/de-ionised water) - it can make a big difference if the the battery is a few years old and the level has dropped below the top the plates. Let us know if you find any Bugattis.
