Hi all,

I'm a recently joined joint member, I have a 1968 series 1 2000TC and the better half has a 1972 2000SC.
I recently got the series 1 as a swap for another classic car, it has stood for a number of years and the tinworm has got the better of the bootfloor and door bottoms, it has also lost a few bits along the way( grille badge, carb throttle butterfly return springs etc) but overall it is a sound car, it runs well despite the stinking old fuel.
I was wondering if anyone out there could help me with tracing some of the history of the car, the chassis number is 41517556 B. Reg No TYR232F. It is in zircon blue with a black leather interior. also it has a mark on the roof where a blue flashing light may have once been and marks on the rain gutters where spotlights once were, was told by the previous owner it was an ex police car but I'm not so sure. It also has a number in the boot under the rubber matting, not sure what that relates to though.
Is there any sites or books relating to the details I require? Any info would be greatly appreciated,
thanks all.

Hello Jon,

Welcome to the forum...!

Your series 1 2000TC does sound an interesting car, with its possible Police heritage. Is there any indication that there may have been Police radios or other equipment fitted in and around the dash?

No doubt one or more forum members will be able to shed some light on what to look for with ex Police Rovers.

Ron.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the reply, I can't see much sign of radios etc but there is an extra speaker in the aperture above the standard speaker grille and some signs that it may have been cut around in the past to house something above the radio slot, there is also a coaxial wire leading away towards the bulkhead, haven't traced it as yet, been far too busy stopping the dreaded tinworm.
New South Wales eh? I'm new to P6's, is there many out there in Oz?
Thanks
Jon.

Hello Jon,

Do post some pics of your Rover and that of your good lady wife's if you can.

Driving around Sydney I would not normally see another P6, sometimes many months will pass before I do. Same applies when I am travelling to different parts of New South Wales, but on occassions I will see one in a country town. I expect that most people who still own one don't normally use it as their daily driver, unlike me. I feel that the best way to look after a P6 or any car for that matter is to use it, at least every few days. Leaving them sit for long periods in a garage or only taking them out for a few hundred miles a year is such a waste, and the perfect way to ruin the car.

At events or meetings of the N.S.W Rover Owner's club, the P6 is usually well represented, with many outstanding examples to view. Mine still carries its original duco, (living in a garge when not being driven certainly helps) but many now have been repainted.

Ron.
