Hi all,
My name is Martin Charles and I live in Hythe, near Southampton, in Hampshire. I picked up a 1972 3500S in Zircon Blue last Saturday, my first P6 and one of the cars on my "Classic Bucket LIst". A very presentable car that I am not frightened to use whenever I feel like and it joins a couple of modern MG's, a ZS and F, that are my other "toys". I've always loved the P6 since a was an apprentice motor mechanic in the early 70's, I always thought it was such an advanced car when you think it came out in '63, especially the manual 3500's which IMO is such a real drivers car.

The car was restored 7 years ago by the previous owner, although there is a bit corrective welding required to N/S/R front lower wheelarch, the rest of the tub is superb. The paint has some micro blister showing now, but as I said I don't mind that because she looks smart and I'm not frightened to go out in her, park her up and not spend all my time away from her worrying is it getting knocked. I'm very much from the cars are for using as well as polishing mould, nothing wrong with beautiful concours cars and I love seeing them, it is just not something I would have the perseverance for.

I'm sure I will be seeking the depth of knowledge from members on here, starting with with exhaust systems. This is a little moth eaten, patched several times already, so before the next MOT in April I want to source a complete replacement. I got a qoute today from GSexhausts in Devon for a complete S/S system of £518 + VAT and carriage with three weeks lead time. Anybody have any suggestions for other suppliers and prices, I'm not averse to putting a mild steel system on, but I doubt QuickFit could help now?

I will post some pictures in the next couple of weeks and thank you in advance for replies.

Best regards,

Martin.

Hello and welcome Martin. Great intro - thanks. Only thing that's maybe missing is a fewer pics of your P6 please :) .
Sounds like your "drive 'em" approach is very much like mine.

Hi all,

Thank you for the warm welcome, pictures of KLC as bought below,

The interior, seats, carpets and sound deading came out today, bar drivers seat and she is into garage Monday for welding repairs to to tub, just the one area as mentioned in first post. Then whole underside being sprayed with sealer, tracking reset due to wear on inner edges of both front tyres and full pre MOT inspection, MOT'd until April, so any further issues can be sorted at leisure.

I had to buy this car having started looking for one a couple of months ago - why? KLC just happens to be my daughters initials - Kayleigh Louise Charles - so I think it was sort of fate that brought us together. When my daughter saw it she was blown away, she'd never seen one and like her Dad is a bit of petrol head. That is gorgeous and it looks so mean from the front, but please tell me you're not going to track day that! That is what I use my MG's for, although I have to say I would like to take the old girl around Goodwood, the circuit is made for a car with this much torque. Once back from the garage and the interior is back in Kayleigh, 26, can hardly wait to have her first drive in it.
