New Member - London - P6, a Practical Classic!

Hello all,

I'm new to Classic Rovers, but am a bit of a car collector/addict, and needed a practical 'family' car for the new arrival (first daughter, Riley, born on Xmas day!). Started looking at modern estate cars, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy something soul-less, so looked at classic estates, my favourite option was a Volvo Amazon, but the mrs said it looked like a hearse. Then I showed her a picture of a P6 (4 door, so ultimately practical....) and she loved it, so I jumped at the opportunity to buy another classic and am now the proud owner of a V8 P6, Series 1. With a child seat...

The car has had quite a bit of upgrading done, SD1 5speed gearbox, 4-barrel Edelbrock, adjustable shocks etc, it's far from pristine but seems solid and has proven to be completely reliable over the first 2 months of ownership. There are a couple of things I'd like to fix, speedo & clock don't work, and then some clonking from the back that I don't like the sound of but I'll be asking the forum separately on those....

Great to see such an active forum and I look forward to e-meeting you all, and if you see a red S1 with black vinyl roof driving around SE London then give us a wave!

Cheers

Joe, Jacky & Riley

Hi Joe,

Welcome to the forum and to P6 ownership! I've owned them since I was 17 (over 20 years now), and love playing with them.

There are plenty of people with knowledge on the forum, so feel free to ask as many questions as you like.

The Clubs area will show you the three P6-related clubs (Rover Sports Register, P6ROC and the P6 Club).

You'll find quite a few people in the general Greater London area - I'm in Beds, so just up the M1.

So, welcome!

Regards,

Chris

Welcome aboard! They will doubless be many folk here who will be able to assist with any problems.

I believe the LT77 'no speedo' problem has been covered before.

Welcome :) have you any pictures of your car?

Sounds similar to mine, which is a red S1 V8 with 5 speed conversion and a white roof. :)

My car does have a working speedometer, but it under-reads by about 25%... (so it reads 21mph at an actual 30mph...)

Welcome!

Good thing you seem to have overcome the "safety concerns" some people have with classics in connection with especially children.

I think you've made a good choice. The Volvo DOES look like a hearse and a propeer P6 is actually a very safe car, both passive but (more important) active safety. On our busy Dutch roads, the roadholding and brakes have kept me out of trouble as well as any modern could.

You'll find this is a forum with very helpful and friendly people and amount of knowledge you won't find anywhere else easily. So again a good choice.

Now. About those pics :D ?

welcome to rover forum. hope you enjoy many years with your car. very helpful folk in here. do look up threads on each of your concerns. e.g. Clock not working..mine wasn't either.read a post in here? showed small soldering job where a fine wire 'fails' ( fuse type?) thus not powered the unit. once i desoldered , fiddly but doable, it has worked well since.
alternative is to send it off for an exchange unit.

Welcome :D There are lts of P6's in the London area so you shouldn't have any trouble finding help ,I live in Stevenage ,there is a regular P6 meet at the Case is Altered in Pinner ,so it may be worth your while making a visist there to meet fellow P6 owners

Once again wlecom :D

I too have an LT77 conversion ,so feel free to ask me any questions :D
