Good evening everyone. I have just purchased my first ever Rover and it is a rather nice 3500S.

To be honest with you I know so little about these cars but this one does seem rather nice with a tight engine and no oil leaks.

The car does need some work but for a late 1972 car it is in decent condition. However the F/N/S wing could do with replacement as it has rusted under the light cluster, the seller has included a replacement wing in the deal along with a replacement steering box, the original steering wheel which does need restitching, 2 x new sills and various serving parts which includes 2 sets of spark plugs. I also have the first option on the 3 other wings he holds, a replacement boot lid with spare wheel kit and cover, spare differential and gearbox, both need overhauling. He also has various other parts such as front and rear light clusters etc etc. Can anyone suggest a purchase price for the 3 wings the boot lids + kit and the 4 x light clusters?

This will be my new baby in a couple of weeks

I hope to get to know you all and maybe meet a few of you sometime

nice looking car.
Hope you have some more photos, sorry cant advise as to prices as am in NZ.

Graeme

The parts could go for whatever anyone is prepared to pay and a lot depends on condition

Mu guesses-
Wings - say £25 each
Lights - say £10 each
Boot lid and kit - say £50 ( does the wheel cover come with it ?)

In good condition if I paid £150 for the lot I wouldn't lose sleep - £200 maybe to get the lot without endless searching for one bit at a time

Others will probably be prepared to pay more but I'm tight

Well guys I have done a bit of ferreting about and it seems that I am getting a good deal.

As for the other parts they can be very expensive.

I have been advised that to find original Rover steel wings brand new is rare indeed and the price can be £150 per wing. I have seen fibreglass at about £60 and secondhand imported wings at £75.
The boot lit with spare wheel kit and the cover can run out at £60+
Light clusters at £25+ for each one
A full brand new genuine clutch kit at least £60

The seller even has 2 x cylinder heads brand new (no valves or springs) and I have been advised they can fetch at least £50 each.

So it seems that I have stumbled upon a rare Aladdin's cave of P6 parts and I might well delve deeper :D

Hi there,i payed 75 quid each 4 new old stock rear light clusters,if u get all them parts u have a bargain, happy bargain hunting Bri

If it's any help, in the last few months I have paid:

£30 for a 4 cylinder QH full clutch kit.
£54 each for NOS rear lights INC P&P (eye for a bargain, some do charge £75)

Don't get too enthusiastic over the boot lid. The boot is aluminium and as such is fairly worthless as a spare part because it doesn't rust like steel. I've seen standard boots (no boot mount) go round and round eBay and they've been unable to give them away. Their value is only realised if the boot mount kit is removed and sold separately (because it's easier to post). The value is then determined by the quality of the rover badge on the top. If the only part of the boot mount that you're being offered is the bit attached to the boot, with a rubbish badge, then I wouldn't pay more than £25 for it (personally). The bit attached to the boot lid consists of:
Rover badge inserted in Chrome surround
Stainless steel slotted top disc
4 shims
bottom locking mechanism
Boot strengthener (which you'd need to drill out of that boot to pop rivet to yours)
Boot handle

On top of this list, you'd also need
Knurled wheel
cup
boot prop - to hold the boot open when a heavy wheel is attached.

IMHO When you've got all of the boot mount kit, then it's worth £60-£80

Brian.

Welcome and congratulations on what sounds like a good buy! I got my first original 'S' (fourth P6) a good month or so ago, also with a few useful spares thrown in. Lovely cars, blue being quite a timeless colour (mine is white). Good luck with it!

So it does appear I am tight after all !
I did pick up a good NSR wing earlier this year for £20 - no rust except on the mounting faces where it wouldn't show

hmmm.. I got a complete set of light clusters for £50.00 - never been fitted to car.

I also got two complete instrument panels, a complete set of side strips, a set of three stainless door steps, two bumpers (Both 4 cylinder :? ) and various bits of trim for a tenner

Shop around, there are some deals out there

Good morning gents.... Excuse the stupidity please.... but is my car a series 1 or 2.... is it a P6B? As you will see from my signature it was manufactured late 1972 :)

I know that this must seem a daft thing to ask but I might need to know if I need to source the odd part here and there :?

It's a series 2 P6B

Series 1 V8s had a flatter bonnet (without the bulges) and a chrome strip along the front edge, as well as a lot of other differences. Have a look at the gallery pics on this web site.

B just stands for 'Buick' and denotes it is a V8 engine.

Thank you.... I knew there had to be a simple answer.... strange that I did not get it earlier as I have managed to master simple

I have it now.... the car is at my home and I am pleased. I drove it down from Colchester down the A12 and it sits so comfortably at 50 and 60mph.

Nothing rattles or seemed to squeak. Yes the car wanders very slightly but then there was a very bad cross wind all the way.

The engine sounds very sweet and that exhaust note is something to die for

The car is not perfect and I know that. The O/S/F wing could do with replacing and the rear wings have paint imperfections which I might be able to repair. The N/S sill is creased and should possibly be replaced.... but the good thing is that I have both the wing and sill.

I now have a mountain of parts that the seller put in a part of the deal and as an extra but wow I have so many and I still have to go back for more. Lights, wings, boot lid, spare wheel mount kit, 2 x gearboxes, suspension, rear axle, and on and on and on.

I'll update you as to what I have when I get time.

Roly, the seller, if you read this thank you for the deal.
