My rebuilt V8 - rolling road report!

Hello. To chip in here, because I have a Cowler cam - idle speed is not a problem at all you don't have to up the RPM to stop it from cutting out and I have found it is pretty smooth - I have mine set around 750RPM - it's not what I would class as lumpy on idle and mine is a 50232 which is probably higher than you would consider. Cold start so needs a little blip for it to settle:

It is not difficult at slow speeds - it drives like a normal car. Consider this when choosing your cam - the Piper TorqueMax power band is advertised at 800-4500RPM - ideal for automatics and 4X4s - while the Crowler 50229 is 1500-5500 - much more in keeping with a manual road car Rover V8, in my opinion.

I have had nothing but trouble from 'OEM' cams - I've found them to wear out in no time at all. This will now be the 3rd cam I will be replacing shortly in the V8 Range Rover - and I am not going to buy a standard cam again - it will either be Crowler or Piper for the Range Rover from now on.

Feeling the love for Crower Cam boys feeling the love! Alex can't wait to see your car it's fantastic and have been watching with wide eyes !

Pete. Thanks again and I feeel I'm hearing the right stuff at last. Not waiting if I can help it so we'll see who has it done 1st

S for Synchro I say - I know people in low places, none from US, I promise!

I have had yella terra rockers fitted on my new engine, and used the standard P6 covers. I believe if you are using later covers you need to have a spacer fitted. This is because there is a metal piece to help with oil distribution fitted inside later covers

Out of interest, where's the new cam from? Great result and eagerly anticipated I bet! Has anyone used a Crower CompU Pro Cam? ( before I bite the bullet)

Here we go:
Viper HURRICANE Hydraulic Camshaft
Ideal for most applications, including automatic transmission. Worth an extra 20hp over a std engine. If the cylinder block and cylinder
head faces have not been heavily machined, and the valve guides are fitted to the correct length, then this cam should bolt straight in.

Hi Riddler, thanks for the info (and beautiful picture!). I had seen this one too but can't find mention of how it drives. With mine being a manual, low down torq isn't so important so the Crower cam seems to cover the profile better especially in the slightly higher torq range. It's all good stuff tho.
