hi all dose anyone know any history on her reg no rwf 822l would like to find the owner befor the bloke i got her from??? shes up in the air now so can have a good look round and see if box has a leek? thanks all for all the help and advice p/s sorry about the spelling im disleksick?? you know what i mean thank you :) will be happyer when i can drive her again ?????
 
thanks harvy re my gearbox? got it in the air looked round the sump pan was oily cleaned it all started car run it through gears in1 2 d reves drop into n ticks over then into r reves drop but not as much as forwood gears diped dipstik nothing done it all again nothing turnd car off giped again tiny bit of oil on in had a look at the sump bit of lekige round gasget?? at rear end so was thinking if i drain remove sump clean filter and new gasget and refill fingers crossed it will work? what do you think and thanks for all your help :roll: :? :)
 
If you've lost REVERSE only (not all forward drive as well) then the fluid level or the filter won't be the cause.
 
o well looks like a gearbox then ?? why is it that i carnt find one thats good and cheepish?? or it will have to and ill just to steam into my capri at lest that gos no matter what? :cry:
 
well got gear box got it in as arfter first atempt i messed up and injerd shoulder well this time done it the old way lol rope got it in 1st time so finished it all of started it up and bosh it worked yepee so out for a drive bit lumpy got to shop turend it off and i forgot to titen hose so sorted that and whent for drive bit lumpy at first had choke out half way and it was slugish tryed it with choke in out but it only ran when half way????? whent about 10 miles turnt off got back to car started 1st time seemed ok but then started to pop back through carb and exhaust? have slite blow on down pipe but will sort that but when out of gear it reves ok but its like its missing when in gear wired a so at the mo dont know whst to do as snaped my rear spring on my capri dame speed bumps???? o well im off now thanks for everyones help night just one more thing how do you put pics up??
 
:D :D its on the road again all gears work but its popping back through the carbs and wont tick over and have to keep choke out a bit what a pain still never mind changed rear spring on my capri so have that to drive any help on the spitting back may help thank all
 
Normally spittng is caused by a very lean mixture in my experience. The choke seems to back that up. I would check for a vacuum leak somewhere on the carbs or intake manifold. I notmally try spraying some water around the manifold joints or carb mounts, if the idle stutters you've found a leak.

hi I know how frustrating these carbs can be belive me. I could of easily thrown mine across the yard a few times. I found this article helpful for some base line settings. http://sucarb.co.uk/technical-hif-type- ... ng-general . If I were u I would disconnect all linkages so nothing is holding the throttle or choke and set the carbs up as stated in the article. only difference I found was I had to turn my mixture 2.5 turns to start not two. With the lifting pins u all u need to do is move them 1/32 inch after the free slack of the spring has been taken up don't push it all the way home otherwise it will lead u up the garden path

Tell me about it! I'm about to go back to HS8's. I'm fairly sure the fuel is boiling in the float chambers on my 2000TC even with the heat shield in good condition. next step is manifold blanket I think.
 
turn the idle screws up - then richen the mixture. When it's right if you lift the lift pin it shouldnt kill the revs but should be where it idles highest then lower your idle speed. Wont be spot on but should at least idle without the choke.
 
hi all not been on hear for bit lets start again gave carbs a clean thay where black? i roughly tuend them and it will now tickover? lol at larst but depending on how you reve it up it popes dack through the carbs recon it could be timing? what do you all recon thanks for help
 
did u get the jets at the same height when u put the carbs back together??? u should then turn then fit them and enrichen them the same amount then go from there with the lift pins. however u only should lift the lift pins 1/32" after the free movement has been taken up. you then need to set the linkage up as per the manual. otherwise u will get what u have at the moment with them popping and banging through the carbs.

timing is also an issue however to get the car timed correctly u need the carbs correctly set and to set the carbs u need the timing set correctly according to the wm so it all appears to be a chicken and egg situation which is why I found someone that really knew what they were doing to help
 
forgot to mention u will also need some form of tachometer the one in the car just isn't up to snuff for setting the carbs.
 
i just took the top off and pulled the top off and then the bit with needal in and just cleand them? it will now tick over and i did convert it to eletic ignition and forgot to do timing then? i realy want to drive it with no more hassal? on it not getting me from a b if there is someone who could help ? we could sorte somthing out? thanks all
 
the pice of poooooowww still spitting had anoth now the dame thing owes me 2500+ so think ill brake it or somthing thanks for all the help this has been the biggest bucket p6 ive ever had and ive had a few but time to go?????????
