hey dave yea i will do that well she really only gets used for the shops and when its a nice week end i will get her out and give her a blast i like when i drive it cause people always stop and look at her and make me so happy and people come up 2 me and say is this yours as i am only 24 and i say yes they they say she is in good condition for her ages and they also say they dont make cars as they use to which is true they are just modern junk. as i should know i own a 2001 seat leon 1.8 20v which i find it so borning to drive just loves jumping in the rover and take it for a nice drive

Get rid of the boring Seat.
Put the money in an account to service the rover and use that everyday, free tax, cheap insurance, evens out the fuel cost!
Ive been using my p6v8 as my daily driver for almost 9 yrs now, done about 50k miles and ive just put oil, water, tyres,on it and the annual service with filters, plugs, points!
The Dolly Sprint I had before the rover, did me well for 11 yrs before I fancied a change.
It did 18k miles a year,1 clutch and 1 headgasket were the only problems!
Less likely to seize up if you use them regularly!

yea i know what you mean i would love to use it everyday it just a killing me on petrol without having no job the only prolem is that i dont like it beeing left out side and my garage is about 20 mins away so there is a little drag to get the car out everyday thats the only reason i got a modern car and if we wont to go away its easyer to take the seat

Someone did a comparison of the cost of running a classic against a new Vauxhall Insignia and the classic won , as they factored in £10K depreciation in the first year of the Insignia's life and none for the classic

Good luck with the job hunt , I'm in the same position at the moment and the novelty of having freedom is starting to wear off

Since getting my P6 V8S in May this year I've been using it every day and I've done about 7500 miles so far. My car lives outside in all weathers in the Scottish Borders but gets covered up every night. Had the first really hard frost this week and it started no problem at all..... it took me 20 mins to get into it mind

Yes the fuel is expensive but it evens out in the long run as Dave H mentioned.

A quick basic scenario is.
Buy a car now for £10k,high ins,dealer repair bills,then sell in 3-4 yrs for £3k if your very lucky,total loss = £7k+.
Buy a tax exempt P6 2000 or V8 for £1.5k, and put the £8.5k in the bank to help run the rover for 3-4 yrs, cheap ins,no car tax, easy DIY repairs, " has no computers/pcb's",.
If you use £4k of the saved cash to run the car,and sold the car for £2k as it will gain in value, you would have an overall loss for 3-4 yrs motoring of £3.5k! Or you can use the remaining £4.5 k in the bank to run it for a few more years!
THAT! is the reson i will not buy a modern car,as they are an overall drain on the finances, and depreciate like a stone sinking in water, whereas a good classic will appreciate in value!
I reckon that over the last 20 ish years,I have had almost free motoring, selling a car for a profit, when I fancied a change.
My Brother has had about 6/7 modern cars in the same period, each about £2k and has had to scrap 3 due to the high cost of repairs, and sell the others for peanuts!

I do a bit over this mileage (about 6k pa), but I reckon it is a comfortable mileage for running a classic all year round. I don't have to commute to work (I live nearby) but always use it going to see my clients. 'Hazel' is not mint, but is tidy & solid, which means I don't have to molly-coddle her.

Pilkie is ight about the cost, too. Comparing myself with colleagues who lease / buy average new cars every 3 years, I estimate that I've saved a minimum net £35,000 over the last 20 years since I've used P6's

Bring a smile to your face & use your P6 more! :D
