MOT going well on our 800 this morning...

I've got 2 calipers for it for £55, 2 shocks for £48, new rear pads for a tenner.

Interesting to see what welding the sill is like on a more modern car than PAE ;)

Should do for starters:)

interesting side note... the golf rozelle has been given as a hirecar, i just took to band practice in leicester (14 miles each way half dual carriageway then straight through the city centre) and it claims to have averaged 57mpg.

And it's not a diesel - it's a 1.2 TSi petrol (85bhp - but feels more!)

It's deathly dull to drive - no feel in the steering and hard riding and silent at all speeds, but that mpg figure is staggering! (even if its 10% inaccurate to give it a fair margin of error!)

Hi, yes that is the thing with driving a modern after being in our cars. They do everything
smoother, quieter, quicker and more economical. However I still want a car that I can repair
myself and does not have to be wired up to a mainframe to ask it what is wrong.

This too is what I have noticed aboout most modern cars I have driven in recent years.
In fact the steering on some of them feel like a video game controller with virtually no sensation that the steering wheel is connected to the road wheels. Also, I cannot for the life of me work out why, given the sate of our roads, firmer and firmer suspension plus lower and lower profile tyres are increasingly popular. OK they look nice but unless you are drving on smooth track like road surfaces all the time, I'd prefer to be driving my old Rover any day :D . As you say, the one good thing is the fuel economy and that you do get there a bit faster (but maybe not happier  ).

that you do get there a bit faster

not sure about that, but yes the mpg is phenomenal. Regenenerative braking feels distinctly odd though!

Certainly the 800 is a nicer drive, which i was actually rather surprised at!

I found that when I was given the keys for a 2K mile Audi A6 Avant - bosses car, and I was given the job of driving from York to Cas

Steering was awful, just awful. Thought the modern Audis were supposed to be good, but it was light and unfeeling at town speeds, and weighted up really oddly at motorway speeds, was strangely difficult to steer. Like the exact opposite of the P6...

You have to wonder how long these small capacity/high output engines will last .Ford do a 1litre engine in the Focus that puts out 125bhp ( I think) 3 cylinder and turbocharged . Wonder if it's built to last the length of a fleet lease contract then fall apart?

Hi, times change, it wasn't so many years ago if you got 100k out of an engine you
were doing well. nowadays if it doesn't do 200k+ we feel cheated!!

an update...

****** have after much arguing, lying to our faces, saying they were fixing the lock when they werent, finally made a semi reasonable offer of £500, the car back and a hire car until weve had a chance to sort it.

I've asked on the 800 forum ifthe ignition barrel be replaced with a second hand one :)

Rich

QUESTION... Why can't I view channel two with out signing up?... Or is it just me?... Sorry for going off topic!!...

Not sure why. Maybe they don't want the forum open to Google?
Possibly not deliberate.

Rich.

Well we've just been to pick up a primera. 450 pounds - drives well. When I've sorted the 800 in a week or 2 Rozelle can choose which one she wants to keep.

Rich.

I've got the bits to make the Rover pass. Cost 100 quid. Just need an ignition barrel and key now :)

If you mean the 800 forum, you should be able to see all of it apart from the admin areas. Try: http://www.rover800.info/forum as a direct link[/quote ]

Thanks Richard, that link worked a treat

Nice to hear things are moving in the right direction on the M.O.T front Rich..

Thanks guy :) Shame we've had to get this other car now, but couldnt leave Rozelle without a car... Drives well though. Have always liked Primeras - they handle very nicely!
