Mechanical Fuel Pump ID

Hi, i was wondering if anyone recognizes my fuel pump or the kit i just bought, nothing fits from the kit, the shop says they sent the correct kit for a rover v8 fuel pump. There is no letters or numbers on my pump, its kinda on the small side. Is my pump like yours?

Mornin . That doesn't look like the sort of fuel pump we have fitted to our v8s over here ( delco ? ) that's not to say you have the wrong pump , just not what we get . The new diaphram and valve is however the right repair for " our " type pump . I remember the rebuild kit i fitted to mine being exactly the same . Maybe someone has fitted the one you have in the past not being able to source the correct item . Still a bit early here ( i awake with back ache ) someone more knowledgeable will be along in a bit :D

thanks for your input, I was expecting mine should be the same as yours, ide prefer it that way since most my parts are from over your ways :)

Hi Bert,

What sort of engine is your pump off? The kit is indeed for the AC pump (with small valves) as fitted to the Rover V8. It will also fit the Goss pump as fitted to the Leyland P76 4.4 litre V8.

Ron.

Hi Ron, its off a 1970 series 1 p6b v8, ide expect the pump to be the same as everyone elses? i see only one kit selling on the net.

Gee... I have never seen a pump on a Rover V8 like that one before. Certainly does not appear in either the workshop manual or the parts book.

It is probably something like a Carter fuel pump as fitted to the Buick 215, and at some point someone has fitted it in place of the AC pump.

This one is an Airtex....http://www.ebay.com/itm/Airtex-Mechanic ... _W0QQfviZ1
As you can see Bert, very similar in appearance. The actuation arm is of a different design, so the eccentric that operates the arm must also be of a different design to those on the Rover V8. I wonder if you have a Buick front end on your engine or indeed a Buick engine? Do you have some photos that you could post of your engine please Burt?

Ron.

Thanks for the help, at least i know i have the wrong pump and the shop sent me the correct order, ill keep the kit and hunt down a rover pump, i dont like how this unknown pump it so small, and my car seems a bit slower than other rovers on the net, cheers

Bert, if you removed that pump from your engine, then the correct AC pump is not going to work as the actuation arms are quite different.

Ron.

No, parts for the Buick 215 although similar won't always fit the Rover V8 and visa versa. Some will, but others won't. On the end of the camshaft there is an eccentric with operates the actuation arm of the mechanical fuel pump. Those on the Buick are quite different to those on the Rover V8, and neither can be swapped for the other, not without changing the eccentric on the camshaft first. That is why I asked for some photos of your engine.

Ron.

That's the spot. No power steering so the area is more open, does look like a Rover V8, maybe someone can see something that I am missing. Well you can only try Bert, the AC pump with a different arm will either work with your existing eccentric or it won't.

Ron.

Thats good news realy because i was getting sad on the idea that someone could of changed around my rover and fluffed with it, only to cause problems in the future with buying parts, maybe a AC pump will improve the power, ill give it a go, cheers.

Hi, sorry to resurrect this thread but I knew I had seen this pump before but
couldn't think where. Then just now whilst following a thread on another forum
I came across this-

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Autsin-Rover- ... 4609a14188

It is strong money considering you would have to change bits over, but it gives
you an idea of what they are fitted to to source a service kit.

Hope this helps.

Colin

Hi Colin,

Gee a fuel pump for a turbo diesel, now that certainly is different! By the look of the actuator, you would have to be almost certain that the eccentric has been changed for something quite different.

Very interested to see what Bert finds.

Ron.

Interesting, this may explain why i never get the fuel problems people talk about here like going up hills in slow traffic on a hot day? its a strong pump when i pump it by hand, a good suction on my thumb, time will tell because i am going to change it to a genuine rover pump as it doesn't mate up with the engine perfectly, thanks colin and ron.
