Master cylinder

Just got a request from Denmark:

"I have a Rover 3500 P6 LHD,1975mod.,with a broken master cylinder. Is it possible to find a new master cylinder or rep.kit? The master cylinder leaks breakfluid into the vacuum and further into the vacumhouse on the servomaster."

Any advice?

Thanks

Rudiger

I can't think how a faulty master cylinder could cause brake fluid to get into the servo and the vacuum hose. I would think the servo is leaking, filling up with fluid and that fluid is being sucked down the vacuum pipe and into the manifold. Unless the export model has a combined m/cyl & servo unit fitted that I don't know about.
A common problem on the SD1, and all cars with that type of set-up.

Looks like the dual circuit system on the export models has a reaction valve on the end of the master cyl so it could be sucking fluid into the servo through that. It might be possible to get a kit to just overhaul the reaction valve.

Rudiger,

My car did the same to me after having stood for a long while. I removed the master cylinder to overhaul it and when I discovered it was corroded internally I had it re-lined with a stainless steel sleeve and fitted new seals and voila, no more problems!
