Lucas FL8 flasher unit too slow

Ever since I got my car, the indicators have flashed a little on the slow side. At 650rpm idle, they would sometimes stay for maybe a couple of seconds before flashing off again. I always suspected the flasher unit was a bit tired. So, last weekend when they stopped working, I ordered a new Lucas FL8. When I received it, I noticed that, despite being in a Lucas box, there seemed to be no part number on the flasher unit. Anyway, fitted the new flasher and although all indicators now work again, they are still a bit on the slow side at idle (with engine above about 1000rpm they seem fine).

One thing that I wasn't sure about is that the dash green warning arrows both flash regardless of left or right indicators being on. Is this correct for a 75 2200tc ?

I was thinking the slow flash might be a poor earth but all other electrics seem fine and the problem is on both sides. I suppose I might have incorrect indicator bulbs fitted or mucky bulb holders? Just curious to know if anyone else has had this and do wonder if the dash indicator lamps are wired up correctly?

No, they shouldn't both flash at the same time unless the Hazards are on.

Has the car got a towbar?

Your list would seem to cover all the normal suspects.

Harvey you seem to have a (P) 6th sense....... Yes, I have a towbar - kind with twin sockets. I almost mentioned this as (to best of my knowledge) the wiring on the car is standard apart from the towbar which was fitted before I got the car.

Your Sig pic shows the towbar, so it wasn't that inspired, but past experience has taught me that some of the monkeys that fit and wire up towbars can cause all sorts of problems.

I am disillusioned - you are perhaps only mortal after all :). Thanks again - I will add investigation of tow bar wiring to list of winter jobs. TBH, I had thought about removing the tow bar as I don't ever use it. Though, after Stina's recent rear end bump, I wonder if it's a good thing to keep.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that, but every now and then I'll add something like that just to give all you mere mortals hope.....
