Folks
I need to clear my parents garage this week - they're on the move. One item in there of mine is a fair amount of London Tan trim - passengers seat, rear seats, other bits/pieces.

If anyone's interested in this stuff for an early 2000 please shout.

Thanks
Nick

I was thinking about that car the other day....I take it things have got worse?

I'd dearly like to do that car, it really needs to be rescued...

I was talking to the owners nephew last weekend and he tells me that his uncle has realised that the number can't be tranfered to his 4x4 as he had planned, trouble is,you can't negotiate with him as he's adamant that the plate is still worth 2k,..

I may have to change tactics and persuade his wife to get her hubby to change his mind and see sense before he scraps it,...

The pic is for the benefit for those who have no idea what we're talking about,...l

Nightmare.

The car, although only from photos, appears to be sound, and being an 'A' suffix/wood trimmed car with a registration number three away from the long-term 'Motor' test car, it desperately needs to be saved. I'd love to do it.

Cheers
Nick

Nick, do you mean the car is actually fitted with real wood inserts...?

Even with the ding in the bumper and being full of rubbish, that car still oozes Series 1 class.... good luck!

Nidge

This saga has been going on for a long time unfortunately. Those plates (and the Willow Green) are fantastic on the car.

'A' suffix cars - up to, I think, chassis number 40005801A - have wood fillets in the doors, however it's thin real wood stuck to a thin metal backing(?) - I stand to be corrected, and it was not durable. Rover replaced it with the plastic immitation wood in September 1964, which actually looks more 'woody' - certainly brighter.

I have looked at the picture of this, and regarding anything about cars i believe they should be saved but seeing the picture - i can't believe anyone would even think about scrapping such a beauty. From that picture, I would more than happily give up with my green 2000 auto, and save that from the wasteful crusher. I really think it looks nice in that colour, i haven't seen a p6 in that colour before.

cheers, adam.

You certainly won't see many. Willow green was one of the first generation of colours, only available 'til mid '66. Early cars had the best colours!
That car looks pretty good from that picture and it definitely needs to be saved. Tell the plonker he can keep the plate if you can have the car! :D

My 2000 (no. 3607A) has real wood veneer. It is stuck on an aluminium strip & the bit I've cleaned has come up really well :D . The ends seem to have like a strip of hardish black tape around them presumably to stop the ends getting caught & ripped.

Re 57 HLB - Must be worth a punt at say £1200+ with the original 'plate? A lot for a potential basket case, but sometimes you've just got to be pragmatic & bite the bullet. It's no use saying "what if" when it's too late!

There was a lovely looking '65 advertised for sale in NZ a few months back in Willow green with biscuit interior. The chassis number was 40100262B!!! I have no idea if it sold or not but I was sorely tempted! Unfortunately the missus gave me a filthy look when I suggested buying another car.

I'd consider a bid of that much, but I'd need to see the basic condition of the car first - if the floors are gone it'd be too extreme. We wait and we wonder!

Hi Nick, new boy with orange interior here....... I have a s2, 72 car..... how different is the trim? Could you send or point me at a picture of something similar please? Or just email me on Jim_Ashton@ntlworld.com
Thanks

Jim

Number plates seemed to have suffered in the recent climate from what I've seen. Not a bad thing IMO when you see cars being stripped of their plates :( If he's that fussed he only has to limp it through an MOT
Hope someone can talk the owner round and safe both as an item :)

Hi Jim
You have, I believe, Mango trim, which is a similar, slightly brighter shade.

I have saved what I can of the interior I had, the rest has sadly gone to Solihull-in-the-Sky.

Cheers
Nick
