Leather Food - Can you suggest???

I have a 3500 with a bronze leather trim. All is well and the general condition is good. To be honest, I could live with it easily.

However, over the years it has been neglected somewhat. It was very dirty and I have cleaned it and fed it with just about everything - including mail order products advertised in Practical Classics.

Unfortunately these products will only do so much.

So!!!!!!!

I am toying with the idea of recolouring the seats and other trims - Black. I have seen the restoration of a Kestral in P.C magazine last year and I seem to remember them spraying the seats with something or other?

Anyone any ideas? I would be extremely grateful!

Johnny. :D

Phil,
What colour did you dye your seats?
If it was black, did you get the standard black dye or a custom one, and how good is the comparison with the original colour when new?

I have used Croftgate leather cleaner and creme with good results but would like to try Leatherique's stuff!

Thanks,

Peter.

Woolies (ads in PC) do a colouring product which I used many years ago with good results.
The spray-on colouring is probably Vinylcoat (not sure of the spelling). I've used this on vinyl doorcards with great success but I'm not sure if it is the thing for leather.
As you've been feeding the leather you'll probably need to clean it thoroughly to get excess oils out otherwise the colour won't take. I think the Woolies kit contains a cleaner and everything else you need.
Let us know how you get on.

Nick

Thanks very much for the response.

I must say that it's not often I get excited, but after looking at the Leathermotive site - I am!!!!!!

I'm going to email Phil and sort out the stuff hopefully in the next month or so.

I'll let everyone know how I go on.

Thanks again. :p

First of all my dealings with Leathermotive were through
their agent in Norway Nick who I contacted at....
Email contact@leathermotive.com
Fax +47 776 50442 / Phone +47 776 50441.

I was recommended to use this product by another
Rover owner, who lives near me, and after reading about it on their website
was duly impressed. I phoned Nick and he recommended that, to do all the
seats & seatbacks, would only require a half litre of the prepping agent,
prestine clean and the dye but a full litre of the rejuvenator oil. In fact
I only used half of the prepping agent, prestine clean and dye but nearly
all the rejuvenating oil as the seats were very dry and stiff. Now they are
lovely and supple.
These I duly purchased, which I think cost me about
£120/125 with postage. The dye was made up for me to match a sample swatch
of my leather (buckskin). If you are going to do a straight colour change
then this wouldn't be necessary as I believe black would be a stock colour.
After following all their instructions (which you
download from their website as they DON'T send you any) about preparing the
leather I decided to use a brush. I must admit that I am VERY pleased with
the result (otherwise I wouldn't have recommended it to you). I only did the
actual leather in the car not the vinyl bits like door cards, gloveboxes
etc. so I can't comment on whether it's suitable for vinyl.
The only product I didn't purchase from them was the
crack filler, which in hindsight perhaps I should have, as I didn't realise
how deep some of the cracks in my seats were but I can live with those as I
think it makes the seats look a bit aged and not brand new.
I must admit I was very sceptical about their claims but
now wouldn't use anything else.

Phil.

Thanks very much. I will email you personally in the next day or so.

I will add a thread to the forum, as and when I have finished the interior.

WATCH THIS SPACE!

Johnny. ;)

Hello!
I also have old, dry leather seats in my P6 and I think the leathercare looked very promising. There is also another problem I would like to know if some of you have dealt with; the wrinkles around the seat piping. I wonder if it is possible to change the piping only, or if it will correect itself when the suppleness of the leather is regained? Any comments/suggestions?
Regards, Barten
