leaking float

I have a 2000 tc with [i believe]the very early carburretters they have very large dashpots.the first float chamber is leaking[no pouring] fuel out.i have taken the top off and everything looks ok.the float operates as does the needle when tested as it says in the manual.the fuel comes out of a very small hole which is hidden behind a type of spring clip above the union where the pipe feeds the second carb.everything was working ok till i fired it up this morning.the manual does not show this type of carb so i need advice urgently.
ps when i work the fuel pump by hand you can see it pour out as though too much fuel is getting through.

Does this help

Steve,

I dont have a TC only an SC so carbs are different, but it does sound like there is a blockage in the float needle valve - going on problems with other SU's I have had before if the float valve stick ups up the petrol needs somewhere to go and that's what the wee hole is on some carb's - hidden under a little plate. Sory I can be more specific but its worth another look I think.

The Internet is a mystery to me. I was surprised that I managed to log in.
I just wish for an answer to my query, but if any people on your forum have carburettor questions, I am probably the UK's best carb expert ( not boasting just 42 years in the industry ) I am happy to give advice.

the cars been running fine since tne new floats were fitted but lately it started lacking power and running rough so i booked it in at a local garage to have the carbs balanced as they have the right gear.turns out the new floats were full of petrol.these are the new plastic types.had to get a replacement set from the local mg guys in bradford.just shows even fitting new items dosent guarantee that all will be well.ill know where not to go in the future!
