Leaking drivers footwell

I have water getting into the drivers footwell! need to sort it quickly as i dont want my floor rotting from the inside out, its hard enough keeping these safe from rotting on the outside in.
Can anyone tell me if there is a common cause for this area of water ingress?
Thanks.

Assuming that your door seals are ok, there's a hole in the bulkhead where the accelerator pedal arm goes through. This should have a gaitor on it, but usually doesn't. There's a drain pipe from the heater vent directly above it which funnels water onto the bulkhead and you could angle it away from the hole as a temporary solution.

Or if your heater drain pipes look ok and are facing away from the hole, it could be the heater intake aperture seal.
Mine has deteriorated and lets water behind the heater box, I need to sort that soon :)
The front scuttle panel compresses it when tightened down

Or you could have a hole rotted through your inner sill which has been plugged with body filler & the water leeches merrily through that. I know from personal experience. The seat mounts had to be cut out to effect the proper repairs.

I also get water in the rear footwell, unrelated to my front leak which I've 99% cured.
It has corroded through the inner sill rather near the mounts strangely enough.
I had thought mine must have started life (death?) at the D post and drained down and along, but has anyone had water inside the B/C pillar/post?

Another common point is via the rubber seal which runs along the width of the windscreen under the scuttle. The seal acts as a drain to prevent water from running down behind the heater etc, and once it has perished water is free to enter the heater box where it will exit via the vents.

New seals are readily available from P6 specialists.

It seems your suggestion was the correct one, as i can see daylight looking from under the dash to the arm.
Do you know if these gaitors are available, or maybe there is an alternative solution?

The original rubber grommet that was in my Rover turned into a sticky mess over 20 years ago, so I just poked some foam rubber into the hole, securing it to the linkage with some electrical tape. All these years later it is still there and water has never entered from that point. Being foam, if it did it would be wet and aweful, but that has not been the case, in my experience at least.

It might seem like the obvious answer especially when you can see daylight, but did you hose or pour water over your windscreen and then look inside the footwell to be sure that it is actually entering from there?

You can also just find a similar sized grommet...slice it from outer to inner and silicone in place.
I sealed mine up this way, not so much for water ingress, but heat emission from the engine bay.
I had to make sure it was absolutely sealed, as even a small opening permitted too much heat.

Thanks Harvey, i will get one of these and sort it, By the way, it turns out i had the BW65 box and had to get the cotton reel type mount.
Its sorted now, so now i have that BW35 gearbox mount and bracket available if you know anyone i will pass it on for the same price.
Many thanks again.

I'll bear the mounting in mind for future reference.

Once I saw this:

I knew you had a 65, it just surprised me because when I asked you which side the dipstick was on you said it was on the driver's side, which it obviously isn't.

I'm glad you got it sorted anyway.

Unless it's LH drive ....

I know where you're coming from! I don't count LHD cars, or at least I didn't, but now I have to take that into account, so the phrase now is "on a RHD car, if the transmission dipstick is on the driver's side......" etc. I give RH/LH and O/S & N/S a miss as it all gets far too complicated...

Hi Peeesix,

Just wondering, did you replace the grommet that you thought was the cause of your water leak, and if so did it cure the problem?
