hello!
I am Latvian moved to UK about 1 year ago. I am self employed IT specialist (multiartist, IS developer, web developer, web designer) and forex trader, but one of my hobby is classic cars. I recently bought my first car in UK- white Rover P6 2000TC 1972, bodywork is poor at the moment (rust holes on wings, need to replace doors on left side, also inner wings and sills are begging for welding , but she is running very well. I definitely overpaid for this car in actual condition, but I really hope to do light restoration in this winter. My budget is small and I have not any experience with car like Rover (Not popular in my country- Latvia), so I hope for Your help with advice and maybe some spares as well. sorry for my English, not my native language- I have good technical reading skills, but my grammar and writing skills are poor- one of reason why I am here. :)

Best regards, Mr Renars Graudins

Hello Renars,

Welcome to the forum... :) This is a great place with lots of great people, so I know that you will receive lots of friendly advice to help you with your Rover.

Did you see P6 Rovers in Latvia so you knew that you would like one when you moved to the U.K, or was it a car that you discovered after your move?

All the best,
Ron.

I had never seen a Rover P6 in Latvia ( not sure is there any P6 in Latvia) , but I noticed this car in some English classic movies, I really liked the body design (lines, shapes) and it was the main reason for my choice.
Perhaps, I will try to sell my Rover to get another P6 before to start restoration, I know, I will loose some money, but maybe in final I will got my dream P6.

I may have done the same with mine, but three years down the line, it's a distant memory. I use my old girl every day and like yours she is a bit tatty and i've been welding up the body in the usual places. But as long as you keep it road legal and running well you'll get a lot of joy out of her. Its always a good feeling when I park up in sainsburys and my old girl gets more attention than the £50K + BMW's / Land Rovers...

I'm born and bread here and my grammer / spelling is pants (slang for poor) so don't worry. ;) A lot of non UK owners here, I was suprised just how far flung the P6 was sold. So you're in good company.

First job I would say is start a post in the 'members projects' sub forum and post a load of close up pics. Then we'll be able to give you and idea of what we think is involved in fixing it all up. As these cars are all around the 40 year old mark I think they will always have some rust on them.

The fun starts here..... :D

Welcome!

I'm relatively new to the forum too and have to say, it's a great place to be.

You're just up the road from me in Kirkby, I'm in Daybrook on the north side of Nottingham so not too far away at all.

Your car doesn't look like you need to do much to it at all, what are your plans?

I will start new topic under 'members projects' with pics soon to show problem-places of my car. You know- in pictures always looks better like real life, never ever again blind ebay auctions without real life checking. :) But its my fault... You can buy some project cars or car for spares on ebay or buy good quality cars in forum from trusted members.

i did the same... complained after the auction that the engine was knacked and got a partial refund. If the car is not as described and you havent yet left feedback you may get somewhere!

I cant blame the seller, I had to ask for pictures of problem areas and ask extra questions, but I didnt. So, if he truly believes that it was well-described car, so it is :)
My language is not enough, perhaps I misunderstood something, I just do not understand why others write ads and do not show pictures of the bad place by default. I would never sell the car without full actual situation description and pics. But as I said, it was absolutely my fault, there is some main rules to buy car in ebay You need to follow the rules or You lose money. :)

Oh well... You'll get it sorted! At least you'll know what's on the car afterwards!

Rich.
