Later gauges

Hi everyone I am currently running a 1970 2000 SC which has the oblong speedo and associated gauges, however I have the chance of a set of later gauges from a 74 2200 Tc with the round speedo etc which I prefer the look of and I was wondering if I could swap them over, any advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi, It depends how comfortable you are doing electrics, there are a number of connections to remake plus the addition of a shunt for the ammeter and a pressure sender for the oil gauge. it would be easier to get a loom for a TC and fit that as it then becomes plug and play, you will of course need to get the shunt off the bulkhead and the dashtop because it's a different shape for the cluster.

You will also need the dashtop, the metal side plates, the formica trim and ideally the brackets. If you want all the gauges to work you will need the ammeter shunt and the oil pressure sender. The best method is to remove it from the car with the end of the wiring loom as there are two, unique multi-way connectors and make it adapt to the existing wiring.

Oh, and also the rubber dash mat. Be VERY careful with the shunt because the entire electrical system runs through here bar the horn and interior light.

Hi all thanks for the replies I'm glad there's some light at the end of the tunnel, firstly i have a donor car albeit a different model so getting everything required shouldn't be a problem as long as the dash loom unplugs somewhere and I don't have to remove the whole car loom and secondly forgive my ignorance but what is the shunt I have no idea what it is

The shunt is behind the formica dash trim screwed to the bulkhead. Basically one side is the battery side and the other in the alternator side. Between the two there is a very small resistor. The potential difference (voltage) will reflect the flow of charge. About 10cm long, 3cm wide black.
