KN Filters

Does anyone have any experience in fitting KN filters to the 3.5 Auto ? Will this improve the performance or is it a waist of money ? :)

i would say such filters are beneficial,
But there is also a foam performance filter avalible specifically for the P6 V8 from 'Uniflow'. They are an Austrialian firm and have them listed on there website. I cant remember the part no. off hand, but they come as a pair to fit in the airbox and are v.cheap.
Its worth getting the 'oil' for the filters at the same time (called 'Unifix' I think), but they come oiled, ready to fit. When they become dirty you just clean them in turps, dry and re-oil, like K&N's!
Got them on both my V8's, brill!

Thanks a lot for your reply. Actually KN manufactures filters especially for the Rover 3.5 L. In fact to different types, both clamp on filters. Part no RC2600 and RC9070, the later one intentended for 200 bhp ++

for futher information, go to

Hi Petter

Its an eternal debate about cotton versus foam filters, they are probably about equal performance wise in the grand scheme of things, whats 1 bhp out of a total of 200 ?. If you are upgrading the engine you defenitly need to bin the standard filters though.

Cone filters (like K&N) straight onto the carb are best for total bhp gain but in my experience are noisier than standard. I fitted K&N's inside the original filter housing and then widened the intake cone (I can get the model ref number if you need it). Remember to get the engine retuned to get the full benifit of whatever filters you install.

Personally I fitted the K&N's becuase they last a long time and are miles better than most cardbourd ones you get now. The car felt livier especially at the top end, but changing just the filters did not change my life !!
