Own a 71tobacco leaf P6B.
I first met a P6 V8 nearly 40 years ago whilst taking my late father to have his mini serviced.
The service manager had just taken delivery of a V8 p6 and offered me a drive around the block. As I recall it sounded wonderful when it was "poked" and it went well.
Late last year I sold my MGB and settled on a P6B. Bought it over the net, flew to Queensland from Victoria and drove it home
The previous owner had loved it to death and it is a wonderful car.
Fitted with a stainless sports exhaust gives it a wonderful sound and its a sheer delight to drive.
Haven't spent a penny on it nor is there anything to spend on it.
Great cars!!

Sound's nice, we can't wait to see pic's and spec's of this "wonderful car", welcome to the oz/nz owning contingent.
Regards,
Scott (WA)

P6's are strangely addictive however you really don't need own more than one so long as it is a good one, fortunately NZ OZ ones are ALL good and don't suffer from the tin worm problems associated with the UK contingent of cars.

One piece of advice I would like to offer in regard to P6's is don't be afraid to improve on factory condition as there are a number of simple straight forward mods that can be done to improve the motoring pleasure of these wonderful cars to bring them upto close or better than modern performance.

Graeme

Thanks for the welcome and comments everyone.
A little bit more info -
Before I purchased "Auntie" she'd had a lot of cosmetic surgery done to her .
Rebuilt front and rear suspension, rebuilt engine and BW 35, re trimmed leather interior. fitted with 15" mini lites and full stainless exhaust which allows that wonderful V8 purr to escape.
Also is fitted with an after market cruise control
Mota Lita wood rim steering wheel
The paint is quite good although very original; its good but not concourse. She's rust free and very sound. Think I got a good one!
Judging by the original hand book she's and English import. I've been tempted to write to the address contained in the book to see if I could make contact with anyone who might have known of the car - just haven't got around to it as yet.
I'd owned a P5 many years ago and my brother owned a P6 2000 around the same time. The P6 certainly retains the style and grace of the P5.
As I'm no techno whizz I'll post some pics once the grand kids teach me how :D

Hi welcome . Sounds like you got a good'un there . Love to see some pics of it , although i understand you need to accost a teenager for the task :D

Hello Johnboy
Welcome -another Antipodean with a P6 is always good .There are a few of us lurking about .
Your car sounds rather special .
If its an English import ,it may have a few "extras'' that were not offered on the NZ assembled models .
Im interested in a few details on the "cruise " thats been added . Thats a add-on Ive not heard of before . I guess a few forum members would prick their ears up for a few details on that device .
As Stina said - PICs are added value on here

Indeed so, I was just about to ask that very thing.

"Before I purchased "Auntie" she'd had a lot of cosmetic surgery done to her ."

Huge disservice there Johnboy to what you've just bought .

Rover lost their " Auntie" image when the P6 was introduced .

The P6 model was aimed at the up and coming executive of the day .
It was a great campaign by the Rover PR department . They changed the " Auntie " Rover image and took on the motor world with a very quick well appointed car that out sold all other makes back in the day .
Later again with the V8 jammed into a 2000 body , Rover turned the industry on its head in a flash .
In reality the 2000 motor was up to the task of the V8 with out that V8 noise out the back . " Not everyone knows that " quote Michael Caine
Still want to call your P6 an auntie ?

Had a great Auntie who was always miss Prim and proper. I later learnt in her heyday she went to America in her teens during the 1920's unchaperoned rode a motorbike, rolled her own cigarettes and was a real character. Just like a P6 -- wolf in sheep's clothing. Auntie P6 she'll stay I reckon

The cruise is an aftermarket DANA unit. Think they have been out of production for several years. Nicely fitted by a previous owner and works well. Once I master the photo bit I'll post some pics

OK , so its your pet name . I didnt understand that .
Your real aunty sounded like a real trick .
I just wanted to dispel the "aunty" label that Rover P4/5 acquired and was thrown off with the P6

No worries Gerald. I can well imagine what ripples on the calm British waters a genuine hot rod like the P6B must have been. Goes like a rocket, stops brilliantly, handles well with what must have been [and probably still is] a revolutionary suspension set up], comfort plus and a V8 to boot.
Could this car have come from that conservative Rover mob?
Must have made a few such as Jaguar have a good look over their automotive shoulders I would have thought
This car was probably light years ahead of most and why it is still considered an every day user today. The car can still hold its own.
