Jacking points

Hello everyone I recently purchased a scrapper as a donor car for my 2000 SC and I would like to get it jacked up high enough to remove the engine/ box ,rear axle and front suspension etc so I would like to know where the best place to put the 4 axle stands on the body itself.a my ideas very welcome

Hi, Don't trust the jacking points. Jack the front up using the front crossmember, then put axle stands under the chassis rails between the front suspension lower pick up points. At the back jack it up, then I put a length of 3" fence post across under the car just in front of the rear axle front crossmember and then axle stands out by the sills but just inboard, this unfortunately this makes access the the propshaft bolts difficult so remove them first. The rear does look a bit ungainly with that amount of unsupported length so put some 4"x2" under the boot floor with more stands or I just have a couple of wheels and tyres under their to help support. Don't axle stand under the boot floor because it's not strong enough to rely on.

Hi Colin thanks for that, I will do as you have suggested but I think I will try and get hold of a piece of box section steel rather than the wood as I don't trust the wood, i have visions of it snapping while I'm underneath

Regards Paul

Wood post won't snap not enough weight. It also grips better steel can slip. Trust me I'm a builder.

If your removing the engine and gearbox complete try to get the back end of the car as high as you can. The engine and gearbox assembly comes out at quite an angle to clear the front slam panel

Mind you, if you're scrapping it you could probably cut the front end off for better access.

If you're going to cut the front panels away, you only have to raise the car enough to get underneath it for unfastening purposes.
